Dollar shave club is the same as Dorco.  Buying direct from Dorco is significantly cheaper in my experience.

Mmmm..."fiberglass and plastic specialists"...something fishy here...

Only thing that comes to mind is using my wife's blow dryer? Any other suggestions on how to dry the blades out better?
Thanks for the suggestion as well.

I end up just smacking the razor against the dry towel several times to make sure it is "mostly" dry.

However, a lot of men do tend to get fancy with it by using rubbing alcohol to clean/dispel moisture and then drying that with a towel and/or hair dryer. Professionals tend to use the blue jar of alcohol for their hair cutting products for that reason.

But for me, I typically just clean any hair off, rinse it, and then smack it on a dry towel on both sides several times.

What is your preferred method and how often?
- In the shower, every morning during usual routine.  Vacations from work, or I decide to grow a beard, and it's pure unshaven bliss time, baby.
- When that doesn't work, I use my dad's 20 year old Norelco plug in I inherited from him.  Maybe it's 30 years old.  Doesn't do quite as good a job as a razor, but close enough.

Shaving razor/shaver type?
- Whatever I can buy reloads for cheap in bulk off Amazon.com.  I think it says Mach3 or Mach4 or something.  Got enough reloads for a year or two.

Shaving cream type, if you use?
- Nope.  Just shower.

Aftershave?
- I suppose you could call me 'fragrance adverse'.  Got a kid with a very light chemical sensitivity to use as an excuse.  She might have grown out of it by now.  No aftershave.

With or against the grain?
- Heh.  Once down, once up, once across, then look for rough patches.  Goatee here - finger-guiding in the shower, finish up in front of the mirror, or it looks like a dead wombat.

- Also, shaving is best done while thinking about Ron Swanson.

Kind of off topic(ish).
Anyone else have allergic/itching reactions in their armpits from most deodorants?
As far as I know, 99% of deodorants give me issues. Mitchum fragrance free is the only one I can use.

I quit using antiperspirant many years ago because it gave me a rash. Only deodorant, which has rarely given me problems. Recently, pretty much by dumb luck, I tried a spray-on antiperspirant that didn't bother me at all. I think it may have been Sure. Not sure. :) Maybe my body chemistry has changed, or maybe the antiperspirant formula.

I started using the Crystal stick almost 20 years ago and haven't looked back.

I was was nervous about trying it at first, but a buddy of mine encouraged me by saying he had been using it.

Positives:

No more rashes or bumps.

No more armpit stains on clothing.

One stick lasts me several months, so it's MUCH less expensive than deodorant.

Can be rubbed on the shirt, too, so workout clothing can be de-stinkified.

Negatives:

It's not anti-perspirant, so I still sweat and get wet armpits.

I have dropped it on the tile floor and shattered it. (Nothing like rubbing broken rocks on your armpits...)

Some people love it. Others claim it doesn't work for them. I personally would not go back to deodorant again.

What is your preferred method and how often?
About ten minutes after getting up on work days (4 times a week).  I usually skip my days off.

Shaving razor/shaver type?
Shick quad blade.

Shaving cream type, if you use?
Barbarossa (red/plain can).

Aftershave?
No.

With or against the grain?
With.

Looks like we get to buy the shaving exemption again this year.  That will give me three months growth (maybe 4, the Sheriff talked about starting it before the hunting season).  Last year I did not trim much.  This time I'm going to keep it around the 2 month growth.  It looked better at that length.

Speaking of kids though, at the orientation we had before our exchange student arrived, the lady in charge said "Americans shower and bathe more than any other culture out there. So it's not weird if your kid doesn't take a bath for three days."

I have been told that in some parts of Brazil, it's normal to shower twice a day. So I'm not sure I believe the lady in charge.

She was just preparing us, not making a statement of the hygiene of every single country out there. 😉

The Lord has given us a specific example of how we should shave. Let me suggest that if we shave in a manner contrary to what the Lord has shown us we are doing it the wrong way

Isaiah 7:20  In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.

I use a Merkur 33C with Astra blades. I've been using the same box of blades for about six years now.

I use a Merkur 25C with Gillette Silver Blues.  I went this way because I'm a full on head shaver with wire-like stubble so one blade per session.  Besides, I learned on a Gillette Super Speed about four decades ago.

That's awesome.

I'm an American. I shower three times a day.

Excuse me but gators just lay in the water all day so you shouldn't have a need to shower.

OK, I must confess something now that Vort mentioned it.

I haven't worn antiperspirant or deodorant for probably 10 years.  If I get all hot and sweaty, I take a shower, put new clothes on.  Good to go.

I'm sorry but that's just gross to me.  :)   I was out to dinner with some friends not long ago and you could tell that one didn't have deodorant on.

My wife and daughters are very quick to let me know if I am ripe.  There are a lot of people that just don't get very stinky.

I have sensitive skin and I get breakouts and ingrown hairs if I do not do my standard routine.

Before I shave, in the shower I wash my neck with a salicylic acid acne body wash.  Neutragina has one but CVS has a generic for half the price.  It's an orange pump bottle.  The acid keeps away the rash and ingrown hairs.

I use a single blade disposable.

I do not change the blade often, using the same blade for at least two weeks.   The duller the better.

I use standard barbarsol foam, since it has the most foaminess and lasts forever.

Then I rinse and pat dry (never rub) my face.

Then I wipe my face with an oxy pad which also has salicylic acid.

This has cleared my face 100%.

A friend swears by Hibiclens, which is an antibacterial wash used medically that you can get behind the pharmacists desk.  I guess the idea is you kill the bacteria that create the stink.  I tried it for a while, but I like deodorant because when I sweat it gives off a nice smell.  I hate antiperspirant, as it makes my armpits feel weird not sweating.  And a little baby powder on a humid day works wonders on sweaty parts.

Here in Oregon, you can get Hibiclens off the shelf in any WalMart, Walgreens, Fred Meyer, etc. I started using it back when my 1st hubby refused to do anything about his athletes foot infestation! I would wash my feet & between the toes with it, kept the fungi at bay.

As for the Crystal Rock, used to be the only way you could get it was in a chunk of rock. Learned to keep it away from the sink and shower - I also sat it on a dry sponge. Once every week or so I would drench it totally under cold water, then sit it on a dry wash cloth. This got all the accumulated pit stink off of it. Also, when using the stick in a roll up holder, hold the exposed stick under running water every couple of weeks, to rinse off the stink. I do this with the one I now have, and upend it so the rock is sitting on a dry sponge and the water drains off and doesn't settle inside the plastic container.

Remember,  Aluminum-based compounds are the active ingredients in antiperspirants. They block the sweat glands to keep sweat from getting to the skin's surface. Some research has suggested that these aluminum compounds may be absorbed by the skin and cause changes in estrogen receptors of breast cells. Thus says the American Cancer Society:

Sweating is not a bad thing, sweating aids in cooling your body down. Being stinky is. I have used deodorants only for the last 45 years. Switching from the Crystal, to Tom's of Maine, then any brand that only says Deodorant, and has NO aluminum in the ingredients. The reason I switched is because the antiperspirants caused my arm pits to swell. Often so badly I had to go to the Dr to get them lanced, cleaned. Always what came out stunk to high heaven of bad body odor. Finally the Dr told me to get rid of the antiperspirant and start using deodorant only. At night after my shower I would rub baking soda into my pits. Then in the morning, after washing my pits and drying them thoroughly - - then apply the deodorant.

When I was shaving my pits and legs I only used Barbasol plain (it is cheap, cheap, cheap and lasts months longer than any other brand of the same size), and I used a lady's design razor that had two or three blades. Used the same one until I could no longer get replacement blades. For the past 12 years I haven't had enough hair on the legs and nearly none in the pits to worry about running out of blades. The last lady's razor I bought, I also bought 24 packs of 6 replacement blades each - I shave once a year now. Just before I go in for my birthday, full body massage!!!

Hubby prefers a gel when he shaves with a razor. Can''t remember the brand, but it comes in an orange and blue packaging and cost a fortune!!! Most of the time he uses a rechargeable razor. I borrow that more often than I like to shave my cheeks/chin, upper lip and neck! Turning 50 was hard, but turning 65 was embarrassing - I have more *whiskers* than hubby.

Lady's, you are welcome to join in.

Razor - Gillette Fusion Regular or Proglide.  I find the proglide at first gives a closer shave, but after a couple of days dulls a bit whereas the regular version seems to stay sharper longer.  I have tried Dorco, and their razor is not bad, but it clogs a lot and dulls quicker, but is quite a bit cheaper.

shaving cream -  I just use regular bar soap in the shower.  I might look at something else in the future.

Aftershave -  I use none.

I shave once per day.  Me lady does not appreciate a face that is not smooth.   I shave with the grain and then against.  If I don't shave against, I have never been able to get it baby smooth.

I alternate between an electric razor and a bic cheap throwaway razor depending how long the hair is (if it's short i use the electric razor, otherwise the the cheap throwaway one).
my shaving cream is hot water (soak and scrub your bearded area with water as hot so that you can barely stand it) and i don't use after shave. and I shave about every other day.

i don't throw away the blade until i start getting more than one nick fairly regularly.

shave with the grain. going against makes too many problems.

Ditching shaving cream was one of the better tidbits of advice i've randomly come across. saves you a penny or two too.
altho shaving cream is useful for when you go camping.

Many of the things posted in this thread is far more than I ever wanted to know about some of our forum members.  :)

I find it rather fascinating how many different ways guys take care of their facial hair and what not.
