Vort
The Scorpions are almost as old as I am, having been formed in 1965, when the term "hard rock" was unknown and "heavy metal" was years in the future. In commemoration of this frankly unbelievable fact, here's Uli Jon Roth himself playing "We'll Burn the Sky" (based on a poem by Jimi Hendrix's bereaved girlfriend, no less), and of course sung by none other than Klaus Meine. anatess2 and mirkwood
Vort
The highlight of the video is without doubt Meine's dancing. anatess2
Guest
This isn't meant to be a threadjack. But I was wondering if there was any relation to David Lee Roth. Turns out there isn't. But in my search I found out that David Lee has a vocal range of five and a half octaves. Who knew?
zil
Let's see, 1965 BC would be Abraham, right? So what did he have to say about this music? @MormonGator is gonna want to know. I see this band has been mentioned several times in the bible, but not really favorably.... Quote Deuteronomy 8:15 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; 2 Chronicles 10:11 For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. Ezekiel 2:6 ¶ And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. (That second one seems awfully applicable...) What's the phrase? The fanboyz always fawn about how much better Sammy Hagar was than DLR, but for my money, the Diamond Dave era was the best VH. unixknight

Okay, dude, no. Take notes. Sammy Hagar added a philosophical element to what was until him, a party band. DLR was basically Paul Stanley with more talented preformers. Don't get me started young man. Don't get me started. Edited September 8, 2018 by MormonGator

Vort
Although to be fair, in my glorification of this band, honesty and full disclosure forces me to say that the Scorpions released one of the most unfortunately titled albums of all time, coupled with an album cover photo that can only truthfully be described as child pornography. So there's that. I may like the band, but I would have kept my sisters away from these guys at all costs.

But it turns out they have songs I really enjoy. Edited September 8, 2018 by SilentOne missing period Vort

Sammy was (is) better than Dave, but the band he played in was not Van Halen, it was something else, still good, but definitely not Van Halen. john4truth
As much as we don't want to admit it when it comes to songwriting, the number of hits and sheer number of albums Sir Elton John is at least near the most successful artist of the last 100 years.
