so I have a question about the law of chastity and have looked around for several weeks now and I cant seem to find an answer to my question anywhere. let me start off by saying that I have never had sex or masturbated before, however a few months ago when I was alone I took actions that I aren't inherently sexual but I knew would cause a sexual response within me. at first I didn't really think much of it because it didn't evolve sex with another person, pornography or masturbation, it was just something I always wanted to try. Anyway as time went on I began to worry that perhaps I did break the law of chastity and just didn't know it at the time.

over the past few weeks I have tried to find an answer to my question but no one else seems to have asked this question before. I also have a tendency to worry about things that aren't a big deal and get stressed over nothing. should I confess this to my bishop or am I being paranoid? Please know that I am being serious so please be honest.

I'm 19 and single

You must be very nervous-it's okay, our Heavenly Father understands it when we make mistakes. No matter what you did, talking to your bishop is the best way to calm your nerves and get you back on track. Good luck, we're praying for you!

If you are concerned enough to come ask a bunch of random people on the internet..then go talk to your Bishop.  He's the one that has stewardship over you.  End of discussion.

We have no idea what you did, but as Pam says, if you are concerned about it, then go talk to the Bishop.  He can clarify and if wrong doing or sin was involved that needs to be confessed to him, he will be able to tell you.  Since you would already be there, it would already be done.  If there does not need to be a confession of it, he can ALSO clarify this.

HOWEVER, seeing a Bishop is NOT just for major sins and help to over come them.  He's not just there to confess breaking the law of chastity or other things related to that.  Whenever someone has difficulty in their lives and need help overcoming it, questions pertaining to the gospel, or questions in regards to their own lives and the gospel they can ask the Lord about it, but the Bishop is also there if they need it.

A Majority of the discussions with the Bishop are about very mundane things such as finances, disagreements, and other issues that have nothing to do with the things many people think Bishops are primarily there for.

If you need help, the Bishop normally will do their best to help you out with it, regardless of what it is.

If I'm hearing you correctly, it sounds like you didn't actually *do* anything.  You just felt some temptations to do something.  If that is  correct assessment of the situation.  No.  If you didn't do anything, then there's nothing to confess.

HOWEVER, if you believe this is just the first step down the wrong path, and you believe you need help getting on the right path again, then by all means, go see the bishop.

Even if you didn't do anything that 'needs' to be confessed, it seems like it is weighing on you enough that it would help to get another's perspective.  If you don't feel comfortable with your bishop, you could reach out to another leader, friend or family member.  I've been finding that people are a lot more supportive and a lot less judgmental than I used to think.  Opening up and talking about our problems is one of the best ways to overcome their power over us.

Good luck!
