MoTab name change

I still remember when SeaTac (i.e. Seattle/Tacoma) Airport changed it's name to the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Airport, in honor of a long-serving senator. It took local officials 10 minutes to adjust. The public never did. A few years later it was changed back, and the unincorporated King County area surrounding the airport officially became the city of Seatac.

I don't think this change is going to take.  Mormons (and not just those who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) may not have difficulties, but with the general public The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is TOO LONG for them to start using regularly.  A Shortened Tabernacle Choir may have been better.  They use shortened terms because they are easier than longer terms in conversation.

However, it feels like one is changing the name just to change the name rather than for any benefit, spiritual or not.  It does NOT highlight the name of our Lord, in fact, Mormon Tabernacle Choir probably connected the Choir closer to the Church than it's name now.  It's name now holds no significance for anyone who is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It does not announce that it is the Choir for the Church, it does not show that it has the Lord's name attached to the Choir, and it does not help with missionary work.

It feels more of just changing the name to change a name, OR, to try to disavow that the rest of the world will call us Mormons regardless of us trying to say it is 1984 and that we have always been at war with Eastasia.

That said, higher people than I are making the decisions, and perhaps they are led by inspiration or revelation in this.  They are privy to things far beyond what I know and thus we probably should trust their judgment.  It just doesn't sit right to me in regards to the reasons they gave for us to go by the Name of the Church in the first place.  If we are to go by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so that the world knows who we really are and what the church is, I just don't have the inspiration (so my own fault I suppose) to see how this name change does that or is even more effective at doing that than the name they had before.

Just my weakness I suppose on this.

Thus I think, while those who are part of Mormondom (not just our church but other groups and factions that are not part of our church) may not have difficulty referring to the Tabernacle Choir as the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, I think a majority of the world will either call it the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Tabernacle Choir...or have no clue who they are now.

I would assume typical use would be The Tabernacle Choir. Which is no longer than the old name and fewer syllables. I see "At Temple square" like I see "of Latter-day Saints". It's just kind of hanging out, for use when you need to be more specific.
