HTTYD 1 and 2 are both good.  I didn't list 2 because of something in it that I can't tell you because... spoiler... that made me mad at the scriptwriter.

It's a Wonderful Life

That movie is terrible.  I saw it for the first time last year and instantly recognized it as communist/socialist propaganda.  Then I did some research and found out that (although they should not have done so - free speech) the FBI investigated the creators of the movie for communist ties because of the content of the movie.

After reading through the thread on over rated movies and participating in debates on how good certain movies are, I began to wonder. Are there any movies out there that we can all agree were/are fantastic?

Movies that may fit this are:

Lion King

Lord of the Rings Return of the King

Oceans 11

Monsters Inc.

Itallion Job

Thor Ragnarok

What is you think? Are there other movies you can think of that may be universally loved or at least not hated by anyone?

10 Commandments

Mmmm... I would agree but the fact that I read the Book puts a bad taste in my mouth. Fantastic book, entertaining movie, awful adaptation of a fantastic book.

Yeah it's one of those movies where to enjoy it you really need to forget it was based on a book lol. Although I'm still hoping for a decent Foundation series movie (I like space operas).

I've actually read some Issac Asimov.  I believe his last wife (Janet?) was actually connected to the Church and they wrote a few Science Fiction books together.  I actually have the Norby books.

I think she may have fell away, but she has roots in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

My sons and I super enjoyed the book series and super enjoyed the movie.  It's one of those things where the movie simply uses concepts of a book series' universe to build its own story (the movie uses asimov's character names and the positronic robots and the laws that go with them but the storyline is inspired by the play Hardwired which is not related to Asimov's robots series).

There are several awesome movies like this.  How To Train Your Dragon is one of them.

If not for the abundant vulgar language, I'd be a much bigger fan.

Wasn't that rated R?

Loved it at the time. In retrospect, not so much. Watching the "bad guy" get his well-earned comeuppance sort of makes me sad and angry at myself.

See "Back to the Future", except more insinuation than language.

Of course not.

Speaking of abundant vulgar language, the new reboot TV series is fantastic...except the stinking language. They de-construct the original and make you root for Johnny, but also Laruso, etc., and their new proteges in an extremely interesting way.

Classic Disney is hard not to like. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Pinocchio are three that I suspect most people enjoy. Snow White, Bambi, and Dumbo are widely loved, but also weird out many people.

It's really hard to find universally loved movies. Probably easier to find universally hated movies.
