Third Hour
Before you think I’m committing blasphemy, let’s set some things straight regarding the word feminist. To some, the word is synonymous with loud, man-hating radicals who rant about the patriarchy. To others, it evokes the image of someone who condemns motherhood or any other “traditional” feminine role. But those ideas are only what some people have painted feminism to be. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, the actual definition of feminism is: Organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests 2. The theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes In other words, feminism isn’t the dirty word some people have made it out to be. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s delve into the question of whether or not God is a feminist by examining if God’s traits are consistent with the two definitions of a feminist. Vort
Is God a Nazi? Hey, it's all a matter of definition! No, God is not a "feminist", not in any meaningful 21st-century definition of the word. anatess2 and Just_A_Guy
Just_A_Guy
The article itself isn’t really that bad (aside from its almost willful ignorance of the difference between first, second, and third-wave feminism) (and its ignorance of the Church’s long-standing, now superseded policy that missionary service or engagement was a prerequisite to receiving one’s endowment regardless of gender). But it does constitute yet another example of the irritating 3H trend towards chirpy, click-baity headlines that are obviously trying to woo leftist semi-Mormons back into the fold. To those undertaking this effort I would simply say: Good luck with that. Guest LiterateParakeet
As a faithful Latter-Day Saint, who is also a Feminist, I really enjoyed this article. Some of the history that was shared in the article was new to me and I found it really interesting. For my fellow feminists, a couple of my other favorite articles about being a Latter Day Saint and a Feminist:Feminism in the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ - BYU StudiesThe Lives of Mormon Women by Claudia BushmanI'm a Mormon Because I'm a Feminst by Valerie Hudson Cassler, PhD
