I understood the quotes from the Church in the article to mean that we are to respect other people of different faiths. To me, this differs somewhat from the title of the thread and even more so the title of the article. because it puts the emphasis on people rather than on diversity, itself, or other faiths. This may seem like a trite distinction, but I think it important in a world confusedly abd distructively obsessed with the notion of diversity and group identity. Other than that, the article has an uplifting message. Thanks, -Wade Englund- anatess2 and without_you

Diversity is a weakness. Unity of Values among a diverse people is where the strength lies. wenglund
Jane_Doe
The 11th Article of Faith is actually one my favorite parts about the Gospel. (is it ok to have a part that makes you extra happy?) Yes, we preach the Gospel and the Restoration in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. But we do not persecute others. We acknowledge each person's relationship with God and right to pursue that relationship to the best dictates of their conscious. We don't preach hate speech of others. Instead, we preach respecting their rights to God-given agency. To quote one of the Apostles: "we can disagree without being disagreeable". pwrfrk
Uh, Jane I disagree. "We" as in the Church as a whole, you are correct. But on the individual level, much different story.

Guest MormonGator
It's a great article, and I'd like to add one little thing. When you make fun of those whacky Fundamentalists, stupid Lutherans, and judgmental Catholics you have no right whatsoever to whine/cry/play the victim when they make fun of your religion. Traveler
I find myself in disagreement from the very first comments of the article. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is not unique is respecting those of other faiths or of different religious opinion. Jesus thought similar tones of respect in dealing with the Samaritans. We also see such respect from the "Wise Men" that came from the East to worship the Christ Child. Buddhism historically has been more respective than Christians and even the Muslims showed more respect for other religions than did the Christians during the Crusades. Respect and kindness for those that believe differently is the first fruits of any individual that is actually on the path to finding G-d. Murder and war is the fruit of those that invade other societies to force their religion. I believe that when Charlemagne invaded northern Europe and murdered more people (including women and children) than were killed by the Black Plague - and for such was given the title of "Defender of the Faith" as proof that Western Christianity had abandoned G-d (in what is known as the great Apostasy) and turned to serving Satan. That doesn't apply to the really crazy ones like Pentecostals, does it?

There is a lady on my Facebook page who talks all. the. time. about those thin skinned millennials but goes into rage if you dare say anything about her religion. Seriously, even the most innocent joke is met with a pitchfork. Edited April 1, 2019 by MormonGator
