Guest Scott
Check out the forecasts drop in temperature here (where I just moved from, but am still working): It's supposed to go from 72 to 1 in 24 hours.
anatess2
Reminds me of Cleveland! You can't pay me enough to move back there. There was a time that the temperature dropped by 30 degrees in just 5 minutes!

And orchids bloom when there is at least 10 degrees difference between day and night temperatures. 20 degrees is better (hence orchids love to grow on mountains) and even bigger differences is great. Except... they die at the slightest hint of freezing temperatures. That's just like me... I'm fine with temperature swings. But not in Cleveland where the temperature swing crosses zero celsius. This is not uncommon for many areas. You'll be trucking along with a gradual temperature drop. Then you'll see a drastic change (down in the fall). It will tend to stay there for a short period (maybe a few days to a week). Then it will rise again as if the downward trend were not disturbed. This resuming of the previous trend will stay a week or two. Then the trend will become much steeper into the next season. Then you'll see the mirror image of that pattern as spring approaches. Sharp temperature changes are indeed common, but more than 70 degrees in 24 hours is still unusual. It usually only happens in the Plains and Rocky Mountain States, but even there it isn't that common. The record drop belongs to Browning Montana with a 24 hour drop of 100+ F!
