Could We (as a nation) Owe the Porn Industry?

Here was one of those really weird "war makes for strange bedfellows" type of moments (no pun intended).  I'm really trying to keep this from being too risque.  But if it doesn't meet standard, sobeit.

Keep the ideas of the book "Defending the Indefensible" as you read this idea which follows.

I just read a news article mentioning that a man pretending to be a woman was given a contract to do an adult film.  But when they saw "the goods" they realized that HE could not perform the expected role.  So, they fired HIM.

He decided to sue them for breech of contract.  And the police are investigating it as a hate crime.  Keep in mind, this is in the UK.

I think the US still has "gender specific" laws that come into play which would still save the producers of such endeavors.  So, I'm wondering if this scenario played out in the US, that the country is so full of debauchery that they would absolutely balk at the idea of this being reasonably "tolerant".  If this actually became a real event in the US, I would hope they take it all the way to the Supreme Court.

  • Schools, we know are all liberal whimps who roll over to the PC crowd no matter who else gets hurt by it -- as long as it's not the "disadvantaged person".
  • Businesses are cowering in fear of public backlash over the issue.  They don't know how to handle it.
  • Even sports are all giving way to the insanity.
  • But the porn industry would fight tooth and nail for this to be established.  Such a change would threaten their very survival.  If someone pushed it, the porn industry may very well be the only group with the combination of 1) Drive/motivation to take it to the top.  2) The financial means to do so  3) The public backing to have wide-spread cultural support to make it all the way.

That would set the precedent that may protect us from going that final step into oblivion.

I know it was a very strange line of thinking that got me here.  But I thought I'd just posit this and see if it stirs the pot.

I think I am going to have to disagree with the assumption that the Porn industry will win..

When Religion fights/fought the Porn industry... Religion generally had the weakness that it recognized the right to "Choose you this day whom you will serve."  The Porn industry exploited this with "We are consenting Adults making our own choices."  While the Religion groups did not like it and thought/declared they were making the Wrong choices, They/we ultimately had to respect it.

The PC/"woke"/LGBTQ crowd are all about claiming their right to make choices... but everyone else can't. Everyone else has to make the "Right" choices and if they have the gall think differently then they will be forced to comply.  The Porn industry has not fought that kind of fight before.  They might think they have when they fought some of the more extremist Religious individuals... But they have not face a whole movement that is like that.

When it comes to such a fight I am reminded of the scriptures that say the Lord uses the wicked to punish the wicked.

As for strange bedfellows.. yeah we should support correct principles were ever they are found... even if it is in the Porn industry (That does not mean supporting everything else it might have)

There is a story that has various variations of it, but the theme remains the same.  My version today will go as follows...

There was a fox who was about to cross the river.  On the ground near him was a scorpion.  The scorpion asked the Fox to take it across the river with it.  The Fox replied..."No, for you will sting me and I will die."

The Scorpion replied..."No, I will not.  If you help me cross the river I will not sting you, for if I did, how would I get across the river, and if I stung you while swimming, we both would die.  I will not sting you if you help me cross the river.  It is in both our interests that I do not."

The Fox thought about this, and then decided to let the scorpion ride upon it's back as it swam across the river.

Halfway across the river, the Fox felt the sting of the scorpion.  "Why did you sting me!?" The Fox asked, "Now we will both die."

"It is my nature." Replied the scorpion. "You knew what I was when you saw me."

-------------------------------------------------------

I relate this story to say that what may seem as a good alliance or a group going the same way as ours will probably not work out as we intend it to for our side.  We know what they are, do we think that will change?

I expect even if they do get a Court response in such an event that it occurred in the US, that such a response in such a case will be specific enough in it's judgment to allow the Pornography industry wider latitude in what they choose to do in the degradation of society, while at the same time being able to be used as a double sided sword to hit Religion with more restrictions or difficulties.

I don't think we will owe the porn industry anything. The porn industry is not approaching this from a moral right/wrong perspective (if they even can approach anything from a moral right/wrong perspective), but from a simple practical or pragmatic perspective. I see this as similar to (though maybe starkly clearer than) the other practical issues that transgender people trigger. How do we handle trans women competing against cis women in athletic contests? How should a choir teacher/director deal with a trans-man who wants to sing in the bass section? In the changing landscape, our society is not fully settled on how to deal with transgender people in some of these special circumstances where the physical differences between biological males/females become important or even crucial (with porn, what the camera sees is crucial). The porn industry will be looking for a practical solution to the problem, not a moral solution.
