shanstress70 Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Ok, I know this has NOTHING to do with the LDS church, but I found it interesting and humorous anyway.http://www.helpingmormons.org/TLC_Manti/Go...ationsAndPM.htmI kept waiting for the punchline, or that he was just kidding! If you go back a page and click on the author's link, Randolph E. Maudsley, you will see a pic of him with his very loving wives. You will also see a note that he has left the church. I didn't have time to read his exit letter.YIKES! Quote
shanstress70 Posted May 13, 2004 Author Report Posted May 13, 2004 For some reason, it shortened the link, making it unusable. If you're interested, go to: http://www.helpingmormons.org/TLC_Manti/- then click on Gospel Discussion Topics. Scroll down to Articles by Randolph E Maudsley (here you can view the family portrait minus the probably 40 kids they have), then click on Family Relations and Plural Marriage. If anyone knows how to paste long links, please let me know. Thanks! Jason Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Actually the website was maintained by John W. Pratt. (When he wasn't making violins. ) Maudsley just authored some of the articles. Jeffery Hanks (former president of the 12) also left the group. [ Bet you're wondering how I know all that.... ] Quote
Jason Posted May 13, 2004 Report Posted May 13, 2004 Back in '98-'99 I nearly joined the TLC. (Jim H was a very weird duck.) I was friends with Pratt and old Phil Savage. They were neighbors in Manti. Quote
shanstress70 Posted May 14, 2004 Author Report Posted May 14, 2004 Wow! Did they try to fix you up with 7 or 8 babes? What made you NOT join it? Quote
Jason Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I wasn't fixed up. And I didn't like the feeling I got around them. (That whole cult thing isn't my thing.) Quote
lurker Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 Wow! My friend's mother was one of that man's wives...I always wondered how he looked! She took my friend up to live with them when she was very young...12-14ish. Her dad went up and took her back late one night; he had to slash some tires to escape with his daughter. When she got back she was really confused. She told me that they had her convinced that plural marriage was the only way to be righteous and that they were already getting her ready to be married (and so young...scary!). She didn't know who to believe. I think the group disolved though, but I'm not sure. I do know that my friend's mom is back in CA. Quote
shanstress70 Posted May 14, 2004 Author Report Posted May 14, 2004 That's really sad, Lurker. Hopefully she recovered from what I'm sure was a very traumatic experience. Ex Mo Jason, it's very interesting you said you almost joined that church, because when I read all of it, I thought about your other posts. You see, I happened upon the site after doing a search on the topics you wrote about in the Ed Decker (who does seem like a freak) thread. You mentioned that you disagreed with all the changes made by the LDS church. Each of the topics kept taking me to that church's website. Jokingly, I told myself, "Hmmm, maybe that Jason guy should join this church, because they haven't made all those changes." I was just kidding about the babe comment before, but seriously, does every member practice polygamy? From what I read there, you aren't a faithful member unless you do. And are you married now? Just wondering what your wife thought about it if you were. Quote
Spencer Posted May 14, 2004 Report Posted May 14, 2004 I know there is some religous sect in Colorado that practices polygamy, even the children know its expected of them when they grow old enough. really sad. As seen on Oprah =b. Spencer Quote

Anyone in an adulterous relationship are also punished in some manner. But you are expected to try. I've been married for 7 years now. I was married at the time, and Im still married to the same woman. She didn't agree with it, but we both saw our way past Mormon Fundamentalism in time. Quote
Guest Starsky Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 They do get pushy about polygamy and your exaltation if you associate with them on any close level.... Quote
Jason Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Yeah, reminds me of some of the sermons from the Tabernacle in SLC that I've read.... Quote
