The War in Israel may be at it's end.

Is this the drop you're referring to?

If so, I'm having a hard time getting worried about a coming depression. I'd love to see 10x the size of that drop, to get us back to 2020 levels before we shut down the economy and made the money printer go brrrrrrt...

Hmmmmmm --- I would think that graph ought to indicate even greater concern.

Active night in Israel.  Within 6 hours, 2 successful missions.  Both Israel and Aljazeera are reporting that the USA approved the retaliatory attacks.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh assassinated in Terhan, Iran via airstrike.

Top Hezbollah commander (who was allegedly behind a weekend rocket attack that killed 12 young people in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights) killed via drone rockets in Beirut, Lebanon.

Yeah, I'm half worried that Israel is going to finish up in Gaza, then focus the same sort of attention on Hezbollah.

My other half worry is they'll skip Hezbollah and just take on the source, and go to war with Iran.  Higher stakes, but defeating Hamas and Hezbollah won't end their problem.  Proxy users gonna proxy use, and Iran will just build up new assets to replace their destroyed ones.

Yup, the greater concern is Iran developing both a nuclear weapon and an accurate delivery system.  Everyone thinks that they already have or soon will have the fissile material.

Israel (and the USA) will work hard to prevent that possibility.

April 1  Israel attacked the Iran consulate in Damascus Syria.

Iran retaliated with the 200 missile salvo on April 14th.

They also warned that any further retaliation would require a much greater response.

We will see…

My guess is that the war is not coming to an end - yet.

MSN is questioning if this is malware…

Any computer experts know if C4 is considered malware?

All we have to go on is what was in those articles.

Phones can heat up if the OS does weird things.  But to the point that it will explode and send shrapnel around?  I'm not an expert. But I'm not seeing it doing the damage (the numbers of bystanders injured) that we're reading here.

More likely, Hezbollah equips operative's phones with some explosive (C4 is possible, doesn't seem likely) and when they are sent on particular missions, they can activate at will.

Israel found out about it and used the "advanced technology" they mentioned in the article to detonate them while they were away from Israel.

Be it known that nowhere in either of those two links did they ever explain how they came to the conclusion that said detonation was the result of Israeli intervention, nor did they give any evidence/proof.

EDIT: I suppose those numbers could be the result of phones exploding if we include nicks and scratches due to tiny bits of debris and people diving to the floor and injuring themselves, etc.

i bet that they are phones not pagers and israel rigged them with post-market modified batteries.  Then sold them as a phone upgrade package on the cheap.

Nice piece of software to have them all go off at the same time.  I wonder what was in the text message…

how did you or the reporters come to the conclusion that it was Israel

For me:

- Who else gonna do it?
- Who else has 50 years as a target, forcing them to come up with more and more creative ways of getting them before they get you?
- Wouldn't be a false flag, it's not obvious enough.
- If we're thinking Hezbollah is next after Hamas, it's the sort of pre-game stuff you'd expect to see.  Maybe it'll force a forfeit and Israel won't have to invade.
- If it swims like a duck and walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's Mosaad.

That presupposes that all the assumptions were correct?  There were precious few details about, well... anything.

The fact that eight people died would imply (by no means certain) that it was just eight phones.  That doesn't sound like a mass attack.  It sounds like a group text sent to a bunch of very cheaply designed phones with faulty battery technology as would be found in a third world or a second world country.

I'm still waiting on details about the thousands who were injured.  Was it life-threatening?  Was it just a scrape or scratch?  Was it people running into each other because they got scared?  How bad was it really -- to be considered "an injury"?

I'm not saying any of the above questions should diminish any seriousness.  I'm just finding it hard to get seriously involved in a story that has virtually no details.

Reporters are useless.  They used to have ethics and did investigative reporting.  Haven't seen it in years…

I used to have a dumb pager 15 years ago.  Cant get them anymore.  Everything is smart now. Alphanumeric pagers probably have better computer electronics than what we had on Apollo 9.

If they all went off at the same time it was planned.

No one wants to wear a device that can blow your pelvic rim off.

I assume it was someone that wanted to do harm.

If you read the i24 link I embedded above it shows a video of the device going off.  Looks pretty rough.  I assume the 8 casualties were from some of the Hezbollah operatives checking the text and sustaining head wounds.

I'll have to look at the video when I get home.

As I stated before, that is my assumption as well.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not denying it was Israel.  It very well could have been.  I just don't see any evidence that it was.  While the circumstantial indication is there, I just don't believe it to be that strong IMO.

"Neither Israel nor Gold Apollo immediately responded to Reuters requests for comment."

Heh.   @Carborendum, that might be the last confirmation you ever see.   They tell me the Mossad often doesn't claim responsibility for their deadly ops.

I'm adding another guess to my list:

- The folks who carried this off couldn't care less about how clear a picture American citizens are able to get.  At some point, probably after the US has lost interest and moved to other things, someone might claim responsibility if it suits their ends.  Whether it ever gets reported to a reputable news source, is another matter.

I like Preston Stewart - he has foreign news sources and experience that I don't.  Plus, when it turns out he was wrong about something, he's fine correcting the record.
