Trump just won the election

The Teamsters President is now addressing the RNC.

Its been 121 years since this has happened…

It's never happened, and the Teamster's membership is very divided on their president (who is also speaking at the DNC) speaking there. My understanding is that it was an attempt to put labor issues in the GOP's priorities, which will probably go about as well as my attempts to make my son eat vegetables. There's a non-zero chance that the Teamsters don't endorse either candidate this year, which is probably more an indictment of Biden's strength as a candidate than a show of confidence in Trump's.

I'm surprised to dig up this old favorite clip from Star Trek Deep Space 9, and reinterpret it for current events.

Folks who are ticked off at left-of-center hypocrisy, who see them doing sharp about faces from previously incendiary rhetoric, and are now claiming everyone needs to tone it down, take a look at this video where Quark the Ferrengi spreads the gospel of Jesus Christ by extolling the virtues of forgiveness and peace.  While also making a convincing case that the Vulcan is being illogical.

I think we've won the election.  I think a big red wave is coming.  I think we can probably afford a little introspective thought about how to be a good winner and a good disciple.

I always upvote Star Trek.

Aw, man!  I can't say whether I liked or disliked Boris Johnson, but I'm a fan of watching feisty GB politics, and Boris was certainly feisty.

I remember when COVID hit, dude was all full of bluster and leadership and demanded to visit the sick people and shake hands and all.  He emerged from spending 20 minutes with the sick people, and gave a big fiery press conference with his health secretary about how GB would come through it strong.  Health Secretary looked spooked and kept talking about how handwashing was important.   Boris immediately afterwards came down with serious COVID and nearly died - one of the first of the world's leaders, at least the first we all paid attention to.

Crooks made the shot with an unmagified red dot?   Yeesh.  If he shot like me, that means he might not even have been going for a head shot in the first place, but aiming for center mass.

I was thinking the cop poking his head up and interrupting Crooks was the crucial thing that saved Trump's life.

Allegations are flying fast and furious right now, but the gist of it all is that apparently Crooks was spotted climbing up to the roof about half an hour before he fired his shot. Local law enforcement, the FBI, and the Secret Service are all passing the buck as to who was supposed to be watching that rooftop, but it basically wasn't until people attending the event saw him that the local police actually sent someone to investigate.

I've seen overhead models of the ear shot that suggest that the bullet would have hit a little behind the right temple if Trump hadn't turned his head to the right just before the shot that grazed his ear was fired.

Also, apparently Biden has COVID now.

Biden’s support is wearing away at an increasing pace.  The political donations are drying up.  The dems are afraid that they will lose down ballot votes and likely the House.

I still think he pulls out of the race next week.  Is he going to abdicate and let Kamala Harris become President?

I don’t think they want Kamala Harris on the top of the 2024 ticket either.

Their leadership has some checkers to play.

Would be nice to hear Trump deliver a unifying and positive speech.  I just can’t imagine him exercising any particle of humility.

In politics, all calls for unity are inherently flawed. They mean “unite under my values and ignore yours.” If a pro gun control politician calls for “unity” he’s asking you to roll over and play dead. Same with our side.

I really do not identify with the Republican Party, though I usually vote for GOP candidates. I remember the 1990's Contract with America, which sounded all wonderful but, as I saw it, ended up being nothing more than profit-taking by Republicans.

If the Democrats are far more viciously and virulently evil than the Republicans, that is primarily because the Republicans do not have a chokehold on national politics. If they did, I bet they would be as corrupt and horrible as the Democrats. I vote Republican because I believe their candidates to be far less corrupt than the alternative, certainly not because I believe the party to be virtuous.

I usually vote for the GOP as the lesser evil as well. Republicans lie about shrinking government. Democrats lie about being anti war then when a Democrat is in office they want to bomb the world.

I’ll take the liars about the size of government over the liars about killing people. Republicans also no longer claim the moral high ground (you can’t with Trump as a nominee) but democrats seem to think they are better then everyone else.
