Patrick Risk joins The Middle to talk about eating disorders, being sexually abused, what it’s like to be gay and active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sacred paradoxes. Wait, what’s a sacred paradox!? Patrick explains his in the video!
Patrick has a motto, “One day at a time,” and as he says, sometimes it’s got to be “One second at a time.” While he talks about these hard things, Patrick also helps many along their paths of struggle and pain.
Patrick holds space for those who struggle and are wounded. He calls it, “being with them in their ashes,” whether it be with suicide or those recovering from abuse or other disorders. Patrick strives to give everyone a place, especially those on the margins.
Patrick also has started a Facebook page called Brightness of Hope, where Patrick shares his story, and where people can come and be vulnerable in this safe and sacred space, and not feel alone. https://www.facebook.com/groups/BrightnessOfHope
