In the April 2018 General Conference, President Nelson announced the change of ‘Home Teaching’ to ‘Ministering.’ Since the change, has ministering worked or should we turn back to home teaching?

Home Teaching has been a long-time program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon church) as a way to help each family in each ward feel included, helped, and spiritually uplifted. Members of the Church were assigned families in the ward to “home teach,” encouraging each member to visit the assigned family at least once per month. Their efforts were then reported to leaders. While home teaching was not a requirement, it was heavily emphasized and members would go to great lengths just to make sure they made it to their assigned family that month.

President Nelson of the LDS Church made the historic announcement during the General Conference of April 2018 to start a new way of home teaching called “ministering.” Ministering eliminates the need for reporting and teaching specific lessons but rather being a friend to those whom you are assigned rather than a teacher.
