Pres. Nelson: We Must Stop Making Hurtful Comments in our Private Messages and on Social Media

Joined: Oct 2024In 2021, President Russell M. Nelson shared three initiatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to help support the well-being of people of color.
An effort to demonstrate the Church’s commitment to its firm conviction of recognizing all our brothers and sisters as equals, without distinction of any kind.
And this is essential in a context where the abundance of information on social networks generates debates that are often un-Christian, full of mockery and attacks.
Including against our faith and religion.

In this way, after the press conference, President Nelson shared a strong message through his social networks:
“I reiterate my call to members of the Church everywhere to abandon attitudes and acts of prejudice toward any other group. We respect all of God’s children. This is a distinctive characteristic of all true followers of Jesus Christ.
Abandoning prejudice must go far beyond what we say in the pulpit.
We must also abandon hurtful and insensitive comments in our conversations, in our decisions, in private messages to one another or on social media, and most importantly, in our own hearts. This will happen as we fully embrace the teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ, who said, “Love one another; as I have loved you.”
I pray that we strive to follow Him, living according to His high, loving, and inclusive example.”
In a world where hatred and contention prevail, as members of the Church of Jesus Christ — the Prince of Peace and the Good Shepherd—we have a duty to honor His name.
Let us not only be different because of our neat and impeccable appearance on Sundays at Church but let us also be that example of light and purity in the streets and our private conversations.
