Miracle Baptism: A Bedridden Man Walks After 20 Years Through Faith
After being bedridden for 20 years, Atiati met LDS missionaries who shared with him the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Upon hearing their message, he said, “I finally began to live again.”
Inspired by the teachings, Atiati desired to be baptized. But before the ordinance, he asked the missionaries to fast with him, praying for the strength to stand on his own. On the day of his baptism, he was carried to the font—until he stopped the Elders and declared, “Put me down. I will not be carried to my salvation.”
To everyone’s astonishment, Atiati took his first steps in 20 years—shaky, but his own. He entered the water and was baptized by his own strength. His condition improved from that day forward.
Atiati later testified, “Since faith can move mountains, I had no doubt it could move these stubborn legs of mine.”
His story is a reminder: whether our struggles are physical or spiritual—greed, laziness, selfishness—faith in Jesus Christ can lead to healing.
