Almost an Ex-Mormon: How a Spiritual Wake-Up Call Saved My Testimony
Not long ago, Prescilla found herself on the edge of leaving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It started when her social media feed was flooded with ex-Mormon podcasts and stories. Curiosity got the best of her, and she started listening. Soon, doubts crept in. She even read the CES Letter—a document that, while popular, includes many claims that are false or heavily misconstrued.
One night, it all hit her. She was thinking about how to tell her friends and family she was leaving the Church. Then a powerful thought came:
“What are you doing? You know this is true. Why are you digging for reasons to leave?”
That moment was life-changing. Prescilla sat up in bed, overwhelmed by the Spirit. She started remembering the many miracles and spiritual experiences she had had, especially as a convert. Prescilla wasn’t born into the Church—she chose this faith because she felt its truth.
What she has learned is this: the people aren’t the gospel. We’re all imperfect, but the gospel of Jesus Christ is still true. We don’t go to church for the bishop or the relief society president—we go to strengthen our relationship with Heavenly Father.
