The POWER of Virtuous Thoughts
We’re often told to “let virtue garnish your thoughts unceasingly,” but many of us equate virtue only with chastity. While important, virtue also means strength and power. For instance, when the Savior felt virtue leave Him after the woman with an issue of blood touched His clothes (Mark 5:30), it shows that virtue is not just about purity—it’s also about power.
Thinking virtuous thoughts means thinking empowering, life-giving thoughts. This is especially important when it comes to how we view ourselves. Constantly putting ourselves down suppresses our true strength and potential. Negative thoughts are deeply ingrained and hard to break, but it’s possible to shift our mindset.
To start, repeat virtuous phrases daily. Begin and end each day with positive affirmations like, “I love and accept you,” or “I have confidence in you.” Ask God what He wants you to believe about yourself, and over time, these thoughts will strengthen your confidence and transform your life. By consciously creating a new mental path, you’ll find yourself embracing these empowering thoughts more naturally.
@amberdawnpearce What are some of your favorite “virtuous” thoughts? Our prophet’s talk reminded me of this reel I posted a while back. I started this practice in an effort to “free myself from anxious and troublesome thoughts” as he stated in his talk. I’ve been experiencing more anxiety recently and his talk reminded me that I haven’t been doing this practice as consistently. Can’t wait to prayerfully revisit this practice and see what other thoughts the Spirit will lead me to repeat over and over again. #genconf2025 #genconf #generalconference #followtheprophet #thechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints #russellmnelson #virtue
