Why Did the Gospel Need Restored?
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ needed to be restored because it was lost after the death of the apostles. In this video, Keaton likens the original church to a glass bowl, with the apostles’ role being to keep the bowl intact by correcting false teachings. After their deaths, the priesthood authority that held the church together was no longer on the earth, causing the church to fracture into pieces.
This loss of authority meant no church held the full gospel of Christ. LDS members believe the “restitution of all things” mentioned in Acts 3 refers to the return of Christ’s true church. God, being the same yesterday, today, and forever, continues to use prophets and apostles to ensure His teachings remain pure. Joseph Smith is believed to be the prophet who was foreordained to usher in the Restoration, bringing back the fullness of Christ’s original church.
