  1. Oh my h***, the world turns to living together outside the bonds of marriage at an

increasing rate daily; says that nothing is wrong with porn, etc. gag, etc.......and

yet condemns mormons for past polygamy??? which was also practised in other

times of history. And how about the way the world chuckles at the men who have

wives in different places and they don't know about each other???? Yet condemn

mormons for their 'oh my gosh......polygamy is awful and evil'. OK.....there's my rant.

Now, for my thoughts on this concern/question you have:

~I liked the warning of the "quote mining" a lot.......if we read just parts of scripture,

it could also seem condemning from some angles.

~Here's the crux: I don't think you should be ignored or condemned for your

question, as I often have questions too. But you must establish a personal prayerful

measuring stick for yourself or you are in danger of giving up your testimony.

    Here's my measuring stick:

FIRST of all, take every concern to God in sincere prayer, tell Him what you have

read/heard, etc. and how you are feeling about it. ASK for HIS truths to enter your

soul. Seek His help and comfort. When you finish praying, stay on your knees and

LISTEN while God answers/helps you. I testify this works.

~Measure every question with TRUTH......it is universal......

    Then I ask myself:

Does this question/information change my testimony of God the Father?

Does this question/information change my testimony of Christ, my Redeemer?

Does this question/information change my testimony of the Holy Ghost?

And you could go on to: does this question/information change my belief in prophets, etc.......

Satan is at work everywhere..........people are dropping God and Truth right and left (I beleive

the cause for this is unrepented iniquities on a personal level)............this is the time to seek

God's power to stand firm in the Covenants you have made so you can live those Covenants

no matter what goes on around you. Constant Prayer is also necessary to avoid the pitfalls

satan sets everywhere he can, especially in our weak areas.

I recently took another concern to our Holy Father In Heaven, in mighty prayer

(by the way, mighty prayer to me means we start out our prayer by asking that

the Holy Ghost guide our prayer). Then at the end of the prayer, and even during,

the Holy Ghost was saying to my soul "some of what you just read/heard from your

athiest son is not real truth". Also, I felt peace enter my frightened heart, and felt

a lot of comfort inspite of my questions. It seemed that 'a bigger perspective' was

poured into me, and also patience to wait where needs be.

I like to remember also, that we will have the opportunity when Christ comes to have

every question answered......so sometimes we just have to put our trust in God, and wait,

and appreciate the truths we have.

  2. I did that when I was young and inactive......looking back, not only do I totally totally regret

those times, but the awful feelings when I faced it all and repented was NOT worth any of what

I thought was love and acceptance when I was living without the Spirit. How I wish I could turn

back the clock with what I know now and what I went through to become faithful.

  3. ok..........I will throw in another thought:

my oldest daughter has and still is striving to do things perfectly; when she was a child,

this had times of driving the family crazy......but when she got her patriarchal blessing, it

said she finished her first estate perfectly......the light went on for me as her mom at that

moment.....'oh, that's why she wants to be perfect and also wants everyone around her

    to be perfect too'

  4. I have had many addictions over the years and have been able to 'corner' it to food,

thus have gained weight and hate being overweight. The problem is that I'm not able to

love myself in this state, though I know loving myself doesn't have a thing to do with weight.

I am now 'hiding' at home as often as I can, though still doing church callings/serving others.

Also suffer from a feeling of sadness most of the time, to top off the weight problem. I do

take something for the sadness/low grade depression. But force myself to smile a lot even

though I seem to look sad anyway. Yes, I did go through much of emotional trauma when

my husband of 13 years died suddenly, and though deeply sad and lonely for him, I feel that

I do 'accept' this loss as much as is humanly possible. You input would be appreciated.

  5. Praise, to me, means being thankful in your heart to God

    congratulations on your choice

it is a lot to take in and really just takes time putting one step in front of the other

"feeling down" can be a trap, so be prayerful......go to God in prayer and let Him know how/when you feel

overwhelmed.......ask Him for the next step and ask that you will recognize that next step

    it is a PROCESS

and don't feel bad if you 'backpeddle' here and there.....just keep pressing onward as you can, prayerfully

Your spirit already knows what you are 'relearning' here on earth, so trust in God and keep goin' forward

    praying for you....

I have learned that even reading the scriptures for 5 minutes and praying everyday brings the spirit...and

as your time is limited, God will make every experience a progress for you.....Just keep reading in the

Book of Mormon, and ask the Holy Ghost to help you understand it for this layer of your journey.....you

will find that each time you read through it, your understanding will increase......again, a PROCESS.....I

remember when the Book of Mormon was sooo hard to understand, and after many years of reading/studying

it, makes it easier to 'get' the language of the scriptures......no matter what, the scriptures are God talking

to you spirit to spirit, giving you line upon line and precept upon precept, one step at a time

  6. "The trick is to get to the level when you can buy most things on sale and not when you need them in the moment."

    YES!!!!!!

This is so true, and money is saved continuously. When making out our menu, we

go to our food storage, grains, and dry beans first........Rotate, Rotate, Rotate!!!!!!

  7. Here's a site that I want you to take a look at:

    Eat Wheat

Food storage can look so very different for each family!! The main idea is to store what you eat/like.....BUT over the years, our family's tastes have changed from tasting/trying storable and healthy items such as whole wheat, dry beans, lentils.

Also, LDSjewess, let me give you some guidance I use when helping people start their food storage, but I'll tweak it to fit the information you gave above. It looks like you are just beginning with food storage, but let me tell you, even living month to month, you can do food storage.

#1.......get some water stored......humans can live about a month without food, but only about 5 days without water. To keep it simple, buy some gallons of water that are in plastic containers.....NOT milk-type, but containers that have symbol on the bottom of a triangle with letters PETE.....this is storable plastic. Don't focus on having a year's supply of water. The church recommends a 2 week minimum emergency supply per person of 14 gallons. Don't try to get all the needed water at once, just start working it into the budget now, and build up the supply one step at a time.

    Next, some questions:

What whole grains do you already use from this list?

    whole wheat

    quick or old fashioned oatmeal

    rice

What dry beans do you already use? Do you prefer canned beans?

Do you already use lentils? Some beans to consider:

    pinto beans

    black beans

    white beans

    brown or green lentils

Is there an lds cannery near you?

Are you willing to make step by step changes to integrate food storage into your daily meals?

Are you willing to do more cooking at home? I'm a total believer that when someone learns to cook, they automatically start saving more money on the food bill; and that saved money can then go to food storage.

    #2.......Your action assignment:

After getting some water, I want you to......

Write down one meal you/your family likes, then write down all the ingredients it takes to make the meal at home. The

next time you go grocery shopping, buy 2 of each item IF you can afford to. Take it home, make one meal; store the

other meal......Congratulations, YOU have now started your food storage!!! As President Hinckley said......start small.....

even ONE item at a time.

ps.......choose a favorite meal that has items that could be 'storable'. For example, a really simple meal might be:

One pot spaghetti (if this recipe interests you, let me know and I'll post it)

    green beans or broccoli

you could also add an easy foccacia bread made in a zip loc bag

    Grocery list for 4 servings:

    8 oz. thin spaghetti noodles

1 can or bottle spaghetti sauce (?I think it's about 26 oz.)

    garlic salt

    italian seasonings

ground meat if using (can freeze some for using as part of 3 month supply)

canned green beans or frozen broccoli

(and ingredients for the foccacia if making it)

#3......make your own homemade pizza.....we use the following recipe and add a tray of fresh veggies for the side dish......

Dollar A Day Meals - Pantry Pizza / Three Bean Salad

Can't begin to tell you how many people have started making pizza at home and thus saved a lot of money.

You knead this recipe and raise it right in the zip loc bag, how easy is that??

I have other helps for you, and recipes I'll ask you to try, but it is best to take one step at a time with food storage or it can get way too overwhelming. This is very close to what I teach for beginning food storage.

Next we will make a lentil recipe that most everyone tries/likes and are surprised that they like it. We made it for a ward food storage lunch n' lesson when I was ward emergency prep. specialist; it was all gone, none left!!

I think one mistake some people are making with the most recent guidance from the prophet to store a 3 month supply, is in not integrating longer-storing items such as whole grains and dry beans into that shorter-term supply.

  8. The prophets over many years have said 'get food storage'. So what does it matter the worry of calling it by any other name? The prophet said it, we do it, we obey as God has asked of us. God must have his reasons for us to have food storage, so call it stupid, hoarding, silly, etc.....but following the prophet is the right way no matter what.

By the way..........the only way to have food storage that makes sense, is to use it and rotate it. How do we know that God isn't asking us to have food storage so we'll use it and be healthier right NOW??? A lot of mormons were using wheat and grains LONG before it became 'the healthy thing to do'. Most food storage items are also Word of Wisdom items. Our family has saved thousands of dollars on medical bills by using wheat, other whole grains, dry beans, lentils, vegetables, fruits, having a garden. I'm a believer by experience. When we got our first wheat in 1970's, the Spirit said "use it now, do not wait"......that whispering has been some of the very best guidance I've ever received, and I'm soooooo glad I listened/obeyed. Now, using and rotating food storage is a way of life for us.

  9. In my opinion, the best way to know Jesus is to give up our pride and sins, and choose to let Him change us through repentance. The more I give up my will for God's will, the more I know Christ. The more I desire to follow His example, I make steps closer to knowing a bit of what He went through for all of us and the power of His marvelous real love for each one of us. I feel like I'm so precious to Him. What draws me ,closer to Him than anything else is when I expericence deep feelings of gratitude for His infinite sacrifice.

  10. Just wanted you to know that I speak from difficult experiences. For years,

my dh would threaten to divorce me and it was emotionally heartbreaking

for me......it hurt like the dickens. I got to the point that I was starting to

want to look around for someone that would love me, not threaten me.

When we finally went to counseling and our home became peaceful, it was

not until after trials so huge that I think it best to not give details.

What saved us in the end was:

    1) counseling/learning and applying communication skills

    2) daily personal/couple/family scriptures and prayers

    3) weekly FHE

yes, you would not think that those 'simple' obediences would be that powerful,

but I testify they save families and homes.

On our couple prayers: there were times we'd be on our knees for a while, silently

seeking the spirit enough to pray together because one or both of us were upset.....

but we nevertheless do keep on praying as a couple everyday.

  11. I would most definitely say: NEVER ever combine herbs with any over counter or prescription medication.

I'm not here to convince anyone else to use dried herbs and herbal combinations for medicines. We have done extensive research, plus fervent praying for guidance to make sure of what we are doing for our family. Dried herbs have worked in our family for close to 40 years now, and I can only vouch for our family successes. We put our finely crushed dried herbs into capsules. Some of our herbs are over 20 years old, but we still get the same results as when they were newly dried. We dry some of our own and buy others.

The bone herbal combination my husband made for me when I broke my arm in a place that could not be put in a cast.....was made from herbs that were about 8 years old.....the doctor could not believe how beautifully my arm healed.

We used an herbal lung combination for our kids a few years ago, which healed them so well, that none of them had a recurrence of bronchitis for years.

I took dried red raspberry leaf in capsules during every pregnancy, to strengthen my uterus: on our fourth child, the examining nurse asked me if this was my first child, when I said no, it's our 4th.....why do you ask? She said "because your uterus is so strong, I thought this had to be your first child".

I went to the doctor for a weird feeling on my head that we couldn't identify.......he said that is was my nerve lines and I was about to get shingles, which he said is very dangerous on the head as it is near the eyes. I asked him if I could try using herbs first, with a promise that I'd come back in 2 days if I didn't get good results.......we looked up what herbs would cure shingles and in 2 days the weird feeling was gone, I continued the every 4 hour regime for another week just to be sure.

We have used heart herbs and kyolic garlic for high blood pressure with fantastic results.

I could list our successes on and on.

Most people are not supportive of what we've done......nevertheless it works for us. It is certainly a learned skill.

We treat herbs with gratitude and respect, taking the calculated dose every 4 hours when used for illness, just as you would medicine. Other herbs are taken once a day......we limit the amount used for health maintenance to about 4 to 6 capsules a day.

  12. When we started our food storage many years ago, we wondered, what about medicines? So, we started researching the use of herbs.......we tried several, they worked for us, and now that is most of what we use for our medicines. We have found herbs/herbal remedies for everything from bad breath to kidney function to heart help to natural antibiotics. Can't tell you in words how comforting to know that we are at peace with the herbal knowledge and experience plus success in using herbs that we've gained. We're thrilled with our decision to learn about herbs/herbal medicines.
