  1. Sorry my terminology is very utahnic… and maybe this only happens in Utah… Yes- I am referring to a non active Mormon trying to get back in the swing of things. Not so much struggling with past issues that are hindering the process, in such that a 12 step program would be best for such as drug use or pornography. What I am referring to is rather the second injury to someone’s spirituality because on people in the church. When an individual is vulnerable in returning and has a great need for support and have high expectations of receiving support. These individual are often very sensitive to the support or lack of support exhibited by those around them. Examples would be: Someone that attends church sits in the back and no one ever notices them or talks with them, and because these people are unsure of their need for spirituality they don’t actively peruse engagement with others. Or maybe an individual who over hears someone gossiping about their tattoo, ear piercing, or may have some insight as to who they were in their days not active. Maybe someone answers a question in class and people snicker. Some of you may be familiar with the talk “feed my Sheep” ensign 1999 by Elder Ben B. Banks. This is really what I would like to base this group off of. If you are not familiar with this article please read it.
  2. I am in need of some help. I am a MSW (master of social work) student working on a final project for a therapeutic group’s class. I am interested if anyone has any ideas or knows where I can get information for recovering jacked Mormons. HUH you say… that is right. I think that it would be awesome to hold a group for young couples in family wards that may have missed out on a lot of doctrine due to inactivity during adolescence. I would also like to be able to discuss some issues that arise because of the opinions of others. Most everyone knows what I am referring to, those that are chastised because of issues with the word of wisdom, doctrine, or other things that get in the way of full activity in the church. Does anyone think this is a good idea or am I out on a limb here? Does the church do anything to help these types on individuals? Anything you can help with would be greatly appreciated!
