When I was serving as Elders Quorum President, I had a member of the quorum with a serious alcohol addiction. Spent many hours working this brother without success. One Sunday (we were expecting a change in the bishopric counselors) when to my surprise, his name was put forth as 2nd counselor in the Bishopric. For a very brief moment I thought some huge mistake was made. But then I remembered several things. My Bishop knew the circumstances, my stake president knew the circumstances, but most importantly I remembered that I had already sustained them both in their callings. My mind was made clear and I had no trouble raising my hand to sustain the Lord's decision.
