Greetings. I was wondering what is the proper title of the person who presides at a Mormon worship service? Would this be "priest," "minister," or something else? Thanks!

Greetings! I am a Catholic who has been studying the Mormon doctrine of the Great (Total) Apostasy. I have been reading the 1909 book by James E. Talmage (a member of the member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles) titled "The Great Apostasy." Although I have a hardcopy, this particular book is out of copyright and is freely available at Google Books: The Great Apostasy: Considered in ... - Google Book Search I am only about 3/4 of the way through the book (currently on page 133) and I'm struggling to finish it. It is so shoddy that it is painful to read. I am embarrassed on behalf of the many good Mormons I have known to think that I am reading a book by a Mormon theologian. But, hey, I can sympathize - there are lots of shoddy Catholic theologians, and they embarrass me as much as I suppose Talmage embarrasses many Mormons. So I'm thinking to myself, "surely, since 1909, the Mormons have come up with SOMETHING better than this!" So, should I plow my way through the end of this book, or is there a better and more cogent resource that I should be directing my attention towards? (I'm looking for an actual book, not a website). Greetings! The header artwork for this forum features a male figure blowing a long, straight trumpet (apparently of metal construction). I have seen a similar instrument depicted in other Mormon artwork. I use the term "trumpet" for lack of a better word. Does this long, straight "trumpet" have a unique identifying name? I'm curious what such an instrument might sound like. Are there any actual instruments such as this in existence today? Is there somewhere that I can download an audio file of a sound sample? Thanks!

Greetings. My (real) name is David Filmer. I am a Catholic (a convert from a protestant faith). I hope that I will not be unwelcome here as I attempt to gain a further understanding of Mormon doctrines which relate to my Catholic faith. Of particular interest to me is the Mormon teaching regarding the Great (Total) Apostasy. I have searched this forum and have seen this topic discussed before, but there are aspects of it which I have not seen addressed. So I will open a thread in an appropriate forum to discuss this matter. I welcome any participation. Cheers!
