Do you think that it should be allowed?

If it is 100% certain that the killer did it - 99.9999999% isn't good enough - then I can see it. However, given that people on death roll have been found innocent through DNA suggests that we don't hold to that 100% standard. Therefore - like Illinois did - I can see the rationale for a moratorium on the death penalty until we can assure innocents are not put to death.

I agree. Once it is absolutely proven that the accused killer is in the the guilty party, then the death penalty is just. Not only just, but the only way the murderer can approach repentance.

  2. I agree, polygamy was not necessary. I disagree that Joseph Smith did not have much choice. If he chose not to participate in it, then my educated guess would be that he would be removed as prophet. However, he always had a choice. Emma also had a choice. She wanted to be with her husband, other women included, until he was murdered. Then she decided to stay in Nauvoo. At last the hurt of plural marriage ended for her. At least that was the illusion.

I can understand why you would feel that women who are LDS have to accept polygamy. I am sure many do. I am LDS and I do not. I do not deny it, I just don't agree with it. Whatever happens to be because of my feeling, well, I guess that is what happens. My husband does not agree with it either, so I guess we will both be banished!

  3. The reason for polygamy was for breeding. The Lord needed a strong, growing LDS population when the gospel was restored.

I do not like polygamy, it hurts me. Emma did not like polygamy, it hurt her.

It is true that polygamy will return. Those that have already participated in it will do so again in the next life, if they choose, not on this side of the veil, but in the resurrection . The LDS missionaries are strong here on this side of the veil and plural marriage is not required. I am so glad that God will not force me to participate in plural marriage. I don't share, Emma did not want to share either. Free will is an eternal law. God will not force anyone to obey or disobey, He will not force anyone to heaven, or to hell. By our actions we choose. Force is Lucifer's plan. (you all knew that, sorry for stating the obvious).

What I have always wondered about is why was it just Adam and Eve? Why wasn't it Adam and Eve and Sarah and Martha and Julie and Rosemary and Veronica? The population would have grown must faster. :hmmm:

I believe that when the Son of Man returns we will not have a choice but to know that He is returned. Every knee will bow and Every tongue confess.

Our agency aside, he isn't going to be comming to test our faith. He will be comming in all of His glory. So, how will I know? I will know when I find myself giving praises to the Most High God!

    Yes! You said this perfectly.

Do the LDS believe that every spirit that comes to earth has chosen where and when they will be here? It has something to do with the pre-existance, right?

It has to do with how we did in our first estate ( pre-existence). My understanding is that those who did not reject the plan of salvation were able to be born to this side of the veil. The more one embraced Christ's & Heavenly Father's plan, the better the choices (my ideology, not necessarily LDS). Those who were neutral to the plan of salvation without rejecting it, were to be born here also. Those who followed Satan, well you know what happened, 1/3 cast out.

My 6 year old daughter has trisomy 21, also known as Down syndrome. My personal belief is that this extra chromosome was given to her as a protection and a pre arrangement between her, Christ and her heavenly parents. She has a free ticket home, never to have to be tested, Satan can never tempt her. She is celestial.

  6. If LDS women in Utah are depressed, maybe it is from comments (taken as if a commandment) from Boyd K. Packer that women should stay at home. This combined with other priesthood "authority" that oppresses women who are LDS, I could see why this would lead to depression. Then I hear old LDS men pray how thankful they are for women, and how exalted they feel LDS women are, and then their actions of "women stay at home attitude" really contradicts themselves. LDS women who can not provide for themselves and are totally dependent on these men for their support are at their mercy. How depressing!

I would like the chance to "convert" you to my way of thinking

Is that your reason for posting on this message board, to "convert" LDS people to your way of thinking?

Behunin, I've been down this road before. This discussion does not increase faith in any way, according to my experiences. You either believe fully or you don't. One minute you are a bible believing Christian, the next you are a bitter, hateful person who hates anything related to orthodox Christianity.

You obviously do not know me. There is only one person in this whole world I hate, and it is not you or anyone else on this message board. You have judged me incorrectly. I believe that what you are doing in the above post is called projection. I am just trying to contribute to this message board, like others here, my opinion. You however, seem to have the need to insult me and others. Why can't you just disagree with me instead of insulting me? If your experience brings you to your opinion, then do not discredit my experiences which have brought me to my opinions. Please keep your insults to yourself.

We are what we choose to be. We are what we think. God gives us the tools; it is up to us to use them. React to the faults of others as kindly as you do with your own faults.

Cal, as far as reality goes, do you believe you see things as they really are?

    Doesn't every one?

That was the main story in the Matrix. I believe man may evolve to where he does see things as they are, but the Gospel, or good news is, that while man is asleep, he may awake and see things as they are, even comprehending God, D&C 88:49.

It has been proven for years that we do not see things as they are. The brain, like a computer cache, interprets electrical signals and we "see" an image. The image may or may not reflect reality. It's why you can switch the middle letters (t and o) on a stop sign (SOTP) and people will still "see" STOP on the sign.

In the Matrix Neo evolves, or awakes to where he can see things as they are. At the end he doesn't see agents, he sees the computer program. That is probably why the song at the end of the movie is called "Wake Up."

And I don't think it's we think that if we live a better life, we will get more. But we do believe that to whom much is given, much is required. Because of the knowledge that we have, we are held to higher standards. We don't believe that God will punish people for their ignorance. It's a double edge sword really. There are things that if I do are considered a sin simple because I have the knowledge they're wrong. Yet Jane Doe can do the same things and it not be held against her because she doesn't know them to be wrong.

    Very well stated.

Knowledge is more valuable than gold. It is something of value you can take with you to the spiritual world.

This is a faith destroying argument because this will get people questioning God because they don't understand something. You either believe God's ways aren't your ways or you think his ways are wrong. There really isn't much else in between. I'm not so full of pride that I think God shouldn't do something I don't agree with.

Questioning does not necessarily mean faith is destroyed, it may increase faith. It depends on your intent.
  12. His ways are not our ways. This Physical world, while extremely important, is just a drop in the bucket when all of eternity is contemplated. I believe that everything is working as it should be, good AND evil. Indeed, God has DONE everything for our good. Now what we decide to do with it, thats a different story. Closed minds are not open to abundance. Open minds are ready to receive abundantly.

Remember this: the self has free will to create pain from sin in the physical world and carry it to the spiritual world, thus creating hell.

There is nothing in the book of mormon that teaches exaltation to godship.

I thought you said you have never read the Book of Mormon. If you have never read it, how can you make this statement? Are you relying on other anti's beliefs?

If you don't believe the LDS church is right and true, then why waste your time arguing? So what if LDS people believe that in the eternities that we can all progress to be like our Father and his Son Jesus Christ. For those who can't accept this, or believe this, who cares? It really won't make any difference in your life anyway.

Just another anti mormon topic to try and cause contention.
