  1. During hurricane Isabel two 19 year old sisters needed food and water. Their father had told them that as they were tith payers the church HAD to help. The RS pres at the time took them warm bottled water and MREs (there was no electricity). They were expecting cold beverages and hot food. They never asked again. Moral: you may get help but not necessarily the kind you wanted. We've been flatly told that the church cannot help all its members. The "Bishops Storehouse" is not just a building where groceries are kept; it is also each one of us helping ourselves, developing skills, storing food and other supplies. We are the resources of each ward.
  2. oops, sorry, that would be Newport News, VA. But I see you already figured that out...you clever people :-) Thanks to all for your good wishes!
  3. Just had to add my 2 cents in here. I had a good friend who came over this morning and of course we were talking preps. She had a bunch of questions about water storage so I showed her what I was doing for water. It became very apparent that she couldn't figure out what to do for her family. It's just me at my house but she has a hubby, 2 sons, and 2 dogs. I tried to explain that her system would never be like mine because our situations are different. It's important to build your system to fit your needs. Barrels and Berkleys can coexist and so could many other combinations. There is no one style that fits everyone. That's also why I would never buy a pre-made 72 hour kit (or if I did it would be only as a starting point). The really important thing is to START being prepared
  4. Thank you, I think this will be fun.
  5. Hello All, I have been reading some of the posts here and have found some good ideas so I decided to join. I went from being a minimalist (one comb is enough, thank you) to being totally involved in preparedness. My current project is to turn my backyard into one big garden (like the Devreas in Path to Freedom). I want to have lots of dwarf fruit trees, berry bushes, and small nut bushes (like hazlenuts). President Kimball said to plant them so I am doing it. I hope to learn all sorts of neat things while on this site and if I can help someone in the process so much the better. Sheryl
