LOVED the book. NOBODY can compare to Anne Rice. Ever. It was so freaking un-believeable it was insane.

The movie? Well... Let's just say I have never seen too big movie star names run around on TV like their heads were cut off and had never acted before in their life.

I guess Anne liked the movie. I don't know. I thought it was a huge waste of money.

That being said, I don't think there is a movie out there as good as the book.

The Bourne movies were great, still not as great as the books though.

Well, depends on your perception. The apostles never knew that Judas was going to betray Jesus, so from their standpoint, Judas was a traitor whereas Jesus knew entirely what was going on, so he probobly didn't precive Judas as a betrayer.

I strongly suggest that you ask yourself that if Judas was a traitor or not. Only you can decide for yourself. As for me, I don't think Judas was a traitor.

I don't really think he was a traitor. If anything, I think he was just human.

But most everyone I meet has the same idea that he's evil and unsavable and I was just curious if it were the same everywhere.

I sort of feel for the guy, to be honest. lol

Oh, he knew. He knew all along. Besides Jesus knew that he had to die for everybody's sins, so that we may live again, he wasn't really going to bother preventing it by calling out on Judas.

So do you think he's really a betrayer, then? Could he get that title?

If he did what really had to he done and it was already approved, so to speak?

Well technically, Judas had to betray Jesus otherwise the attonement wouldn't have happened. Was it a serious sin? For sure, yes. BUT like I said, it was nessecary to enact the attonement so there has to be some credit for that. If I'm also correct, after betraying Jesus, Judas felt guilty. Whether he was sorry for himself or if he was sorry that he killed the son of God, we'll never know, but you can't just judge him for one of his wrongs. I mean, if we were judged for our place in heaven by a single wrong moment, it would definitly not fully define who we are in real life.

What do you think of the theory that Jesus forsaw Judas betraying him? That he knew it was going to happen but went along with it?

Judas was a very common name in Jesus' day. A shortened version would be Jude, which there is a book by that name in the New Testament (ever think of shortening your name? You'd be cool as Jude Law).

Judas was not the most evil person ever to walk the earth. Cain was. The difference is that Cain talked with God and consciously rebelled against him. Judas did not yet receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost nor experience things beyond a few miracles of Jesus. It is very likely that Judas' goal was to force Jesus into being the sort of Messiah he was looking for: someone who would lead Israel into independence from Roman rule. Betraying him to the Jewish leaders, Judas may have hoped Jesus would have called forth to the people to rise up against their captors. Instead, Jesus quietly stood before Jewish and Roman leaders and accepted his execution. In realizing his effort failed, Judas hung himself.

So, it is very possible Judas was politically misguided and stupid, rather than being the most evil man on earth.

Eh... Stupid is kind of a strong word, isn't it? Human, maybe. lol

No, I never thought of shortening it. Someone called me Jude once, but I wasn't too sure what to think of it. And I don't think I look anything like Jude Law. LOL

I have no idea what was going through Judas' head... would he be punished for what he did? ya. was what he did wrong? ya. Did he ever repent? don't know.

Does that make judas a bad or cursed name? no. And if anyone associates you with him you ought to chew them out.

It probably is a bit odd, at least in Christian culture anyways as the name Judas is associated with the Judas that betrayed christ. But that's probably the only odd thing i can think of about it. I imagine that in arbic, jewish and middle east circles that it's just fine.

Do you think he can be forgiven for what he did? Or was it such a sin that he just can't be?

A lot of people are named David - after King David of David and Goliath fame. He was a good King whom God favored. But, in the end, he took some other man's wife and had the man killed and lost favor with God.

People don't look bad on kids named David. They all remember David slaying Goliath.

Judas Iscariot was an Apostle - one of the 12 who sustained Jesus Christ. Jesus held Judas to a high regard. Judas did a lot of good as an apostle. In the end he betrayed Jesus. People don't see the good days when Judas worked as an apostle. All they see is when he betrayed Jesus in the end. They don't even think of the agony that brought Judas to the point of ending his life. Peter - another apostle - denied Jesus 3 times. Yet people don't think ill of the name Peter.

So, yeah, it's what people choose to remember the person by. Unfortunately, Judas is defined by that one act of betrayal and not the days of apostleship.

Don't worry about it. I, personally, think the name Judas is cool!

Some say that Jesus even say Judas betraying him but kept him anyways. So maybe it was just something that was meant to be? After all, if Jesus didn't die for our sins, where would we be today? Would Earth be Hell?

I had a dream I was getting whipped for punishment a few days ago.

In a tootally non kinky, non dominatrix sort of way. Sort of sucked.

is Judas. No, really, I mean for real. I never really understand it until a few years ago, didn't much care to get into that much.

I wasn't raised in a religious family (quiet the opposite, actually). I figure my parents must have had a crooked sense of humour when they named me.

Anyhow, I grew up in a small, very religious town (to the point of narrow minded bigotness... No offence) and suffered through my fair share of bible thumpers (again, no offence) and really had no idea why some little old lady who WAS going to give me a piece of candy suddenly looks oddly at me upon learning my name. Heck, I was five. I didn't know. I remember one teacher who only called me by my first name unless she absolutely had too. I was the only one she'd refer to using the last name, which in itself became quiet a joke in class. Anyhow, I got judged a lot by my name and never had it figured out until someone sat down and told me why.

That Judas was the most evil (?) man on Earth, the greatest betrayer of all, and a smear on humankind.

Now, I don't claim to know much of anything about religion. I'm pretty ignorant. I read one bible when I was around 9 or 10 but can't remember much of it.

So what I've gathered is that Judas went to the chief priest to betray Jesus, got paid a certain amount (30 coins?) and then tried to return the money after he realised his betrayal, and then hung himself in shame. I know there's a few other way he supposedly died (headfirst in a field, etc) and that's all conflicting.

There's also a few reasons said as to why he actually betrayed Jesus in the first place.

But... Do you really think he's such a bad guy?

Maybe it's because I've got his name but... Wasn't he just human? I mean, we all do stupid things, right? If he actually did hang himself, obviously he showed some signs of remorse. Hundreds of years later and people still hate the guy. I kind of feel sorry for him.

Old people, even those polite ones, can't help but give me an odd look when I make introductions and it's sort of... I don't know...irritating, I guess, that because of what Judas was percieved to have done way back when, I get it.

I'm not a bad person, I don't think. I have my issues, sure, but don't we all?

Anyways, I'm mostly curious about the opinion of Judas and what your take is on his situation. Can he be forgiven? Is he still the ulitmate betrayer?

So... I'm not too great at this introduction thing.

I'm Judas, going on 17, a northener of the lovely Canada (Yes, currently froze half to death), and... I don't know.

I'm not really religious... I'm not sure I believe in Heaven, God, or Hell. I'd like too, but don't.

I was actually browsing for something else when this website popped up, and I guess I joined because I was mostly curious about my name (which I can explain in another post in a more appropiate section) and figured I could get some insight.
