I served in Ohio in 2000-2002. About halfway through my mission, we received the instruction to invite investigators to be baptized during the first discussion. This was trained out initially by AP’s (I was a zone leader at the time), but it was later taught be the mission president and by elder yoshihiko kikuchi of the first quorum of the seventy. I clearly remember it because I felt like it was a huge mistake and rushed a person to make a huge decision. But I did it because that’s what I was asked to do. I was very disappointed in Elder Ballard for suggesting that it generated from the missionaries. Very dishonest.
