dvdreviewergal Posted July 11, 2008 Report Share Posted July 11, 2008 A drama based on actual events follows the life of Samuel Hunter whose faith is challenged when he joins the LDS church for the woman he loves and follows her along the ill-fated journey of the Martin Handcart Company in 1856. The trek of the Martin Handcart Company to the Salt Lake valley is historically known as one of the most tragic LDS events. Over 150 men, women and children died of cold and starvation. The handcart company left too late in the season in Nebraska, only to encounter a very cold and early Wyoming winter. The movie portrays how the saints had to rely on Heavenly Father with a surety and complete faith through the cold winter storms. This trial built the saint's testimony and faith so that they could have the ability to begin to build His church. We can see in our own lives that after the storms we go through, the struggle was a storm of perfection strengthening us and preparing a way for us.
