On 6 December 1832 the Ohio Atlas and Lorain County Gazettepublished the following remarks and confident predictions: “As acuriosity, we have carefully examined the Golden Bible, and pronounceit not even ‘a cunningly devised fable.’ Every page bears the impressof its human authorship. Though free from vulgar obscenities, it is anabsurd collection of dull, stupid and foolishly improbable storieswhich no person, unless under the influence of powerfully excitedfeelings, can mistake for truth and inspiration. With its authors, theBook of Mormon cannot survive this generation. The next will rememberit, only to smile at the credulity of the present.” It would appearthat these commentators were markedly mistaken. In modern times theBook of Mormon has been named as one of the twenty books that changedAmerica and to date it has been translated, either in whole or inpart, into more than 100 languages. Millions of Latter-day Saints holdthe translator and scribes of the text in high esteem and consider thebook to be a scriptural collection of great worth.Upgraded Church Historical Site in Harmony, PennsylvaniaMormon church announces Harmony historical site | Deseret NewsEVENTSymposium2 July 2011Temple Studies GroupLondon, England“The Temple Hidden in the Bible”Temple Studies GroupEXPOUND is a private, non-profit venture which is supportive of TheChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but does not have anyformal connection with that religious organization.
