I stumbled upon this forum on my quest as my user name says is the quest for the Truth. I am a Baptized Catholic, but in my time of faithfully practicing the teachings of the Catholic Church, I find my beliefs do not match that of the Church. The hypocrisy, the lies, and the disappointments only added to my desire to do as we are constantly reminded and to search to find the truth. At the same time I had recently met a new friend and her family. They treated me with such respect even with my past, and they did not judge. Their strong conviction to The Family and "Clean Life style" was unmistakable. I grew up with my best friend being a member of the LDS Church and I recognized the goodness in them and decided that it was a good place to start.

It has been nearly 5 months since I have met this family and I Love each of them and am grateful for their guidance. At no time have any of them been pushy and I appreciate that. As I continue to "investigate" and read the B.o.M and meet with local Missionaries I find myself constantly thinking about reading more, talking more about the beliefs, and now I am changing my work schedule to allow myself the opportunity to attend Sacrament.

I guess this has not really been an introduction of me as much as description of my journey with the LDS Church instead of an introduction of me, but hey it is what I was inspired to write when I started :-)

Welcome! You'll find a few former Catholics here, including myself. You'll also find a few recent converts, including myself again, who understand what you're going through.

I found this to be a great place for asking questions and getting the LDS view on a variety of topics.

Welcome! You'll probably be pleasantly surprised how many other members of lds.net are also investigating the church. Reading your story makes me wish I was back on my mission. :P Hope you are able to learn a lot here :)

Thank you for your warm welcome.. I am hoping that what few questions I have I will be able to get answered, as the members of the Church are some of the best examples of living Christ's teachings I have seen, and I feel that I am in the right place, my logical head wants to understand first :-)

Well then you just may find me asking you questions.. .. My Missionaries are pretty good at answering them though. Thank you for your kind welcome :-)

I forgot to suggest this book, 'Catholic roots, Mormon Harvest' by Eric Shuster. The missionaries do what they can, but they are no match for a Catholic with 12 yrs of Catholic school and some comparative religion college courses. Shuster's wife has a masters in theology and was quite adept at comparing and contrasting Catholic and Mormon theology. They have an interesting conversion story. Shuster is on Facebook, if that's your thing, and will talk to you, if you have questions.

I am also a recent convert to the Church of Jesus Christ from the Catholic Church. Besides also recommending "Catholic Roots, Mormon Harvest", I also found the following books helpful, coming from a Catholic background:

1) The Inevitable Apostasy and the Promised Restoration by Tad Callister

2) All Things Restored: Confirming the Authenticity of LDS Beliefs by Matthew Brown

3) Where Have All the Prophets Gone: Revelation and Rebellion in the Old Testament and the Christian World by Scott Petersen

For me, the most important thing was coming to an understanding of the apostasy and the restoration. These books cover those topics in detail, showing the Biblical and historical bases for the Great Apostasy, the changing of various beliefs and ordinances/sacraments, and the true restoration of various beliefs and ordinances, showing the historical evidences for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints being an authentic restoration of ancient Judeo-Christian beliefs and rites. This, along with prayer to God, confirmed to me that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints really is the "one true church", with apostles, prophets, revelation, gifts of the Spirit, sacred ordinances, temples, etc. just like the ancient Church.

So welcome to the forums, and feel free to ask any questions!
