So I've heard a lot about the negative effects of not having a Father in the home, but I haven't heard much about the negative effects of not having a Mother.

I'm curious if any of you know a study about this, and how it compares to single motherhood?

While it does happen, it is rare. I'm sure there are serious consequences to a mother's not being with her children, although I haven't seen anything on the matter.

Since it is so rare, and since the corollary (the father's absence) is proven, time and again, to be devastating, the real question isn't whether a mother's absence or a father's absence harms children, but how to increase marriages, marriage stability, improve marriages, and reduce violent "discipline".
