Today Presiding Bishop Gary E. Stevenson presented a check for $1.8 million to Cliff Holtz, president of Humanitarian Services of the American Red Cross.

The donation came from the net proceeds from ‘Meet the Mormons’ during its showing in over 400 theaters across the country. The Church has had a long standing relationship with the Red Cross and had previously announced that a donation would be made to the organization following the documentary’s release.

Mormon Newsroom reports that “U.S. box office receipts totaled just over $6 million, making it one of the top 40 documentaries of all time.”

The film will be available to buy in stores beginning March 31, 2015.
