Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Twelve Apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently traveled to Jerusalem to attend the 2015 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies Conference. While in the Holy Land, Andersen had the opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat.

Stephen Rockwood, managing director of the Church’s Family History Department, Eran Hayet, director of the Brigham Young University (BYU) Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies, and Andersen’s wife, Kathy, traveled with Andersen, and met with the Mayor to discuss the BYU-owned Jerusalem Center and how the Church is preserving family history.

Mormon Newsroom reports that Barkat has been in office since 2008 and had positive impressions of the Church. For more information on Andersen’s visit to Jerusalem, visit mormonnewsroom.org.
