The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has confirmed that all of its missionaries in Chile are safe after an earthquake struck off-shores of Chile.
Eric Hawkins, a spokesperson for the Church, said in a statement,
We are grateful to report that all missionaries in the area near the earthquake in Chile are accounted for and safe.
Deseret News reports that the 8.3 magnitude offshore earthquake caused an evacuation of one million people on the coastline. The quake was so large that even people more than 2,000 miles away, in Brazil, could feel it.
Hawkins expressed concern for those in the area affected by the earthquake. He said, “our prayers are with the people of this region as they deal with the effects of this natural disaster and also with those who may yet be affected by further impacts.”
