  1. Elder Dallin H. Oaks has said it is not right to criticize leaders of the church, even if the criticism is true. We will never be wrong for following the counsel of our leaders. As was stated before, church leaders are human an make mistakes. They may say things that are unintentionally not correct. However, they are our chosen leaders and we are to follow them. Those who continue to kick against the pricks, who seek to question their leaders rather than follow inspired counsel, will not be worthy of the guidance of the Spirit and will have their eternal salvation jeopardized.
  2. Are you content with what you are being paid? If you are then it shouldn't matter what your mom wants. It's your time and your money. Plus, I'm guessing if you babysit 3 days a week that you live with your parents, which means you don't have a ton of expenses, whch means minimum wage isn't too relevant. Do what you want to do and not what others think you should do.

    Alcohol

I don't think it's ridiculous at all to not allow alcohol in your home. It's your home, your rules. My wife's dad's side of the family all like their wine and drink it whenever we get together. The get-togethers are never in our home though, because they all know they can't drink here, so they don't bother asking us to host. If the family is offended by your decision not to allow alcohol in your home, that's really their problem, not yours. Alcohol drives the Spirit away, and is a few hours with your family really worth not having the Spirit? What else could happen when the Spirit isn't there? You and your husband need to agree one way or another. My personal belief is that I will not sacrifice my standards ever, no matter the occasion. Family is not exempt.
  4. I serve my mission there 10 years ago and the GW area was my last area. If it hasn't changed too much you'll be in the DC branch and meet in the Chevy Chase chapel. I think they realigned the district, but you probably meet in the same building. I hope that helps.
