  1. No, I am not active in church currently. I hold the Aaronic priesthood, I believe. The statement that the LDS faith is true pure Christianity is your belief. When I said I believed in Christianity in general, I simply meant the basics that most Christian religions agree on. Also yes, I would like my Bible for some reference when I ask my other questions. You say to go to Christ's church. The problem is that I do not know what church is Christ's. To tell you the truth, I have never even met my current bishop. On the subject of seminary, yes I went for two and a half years and my experience with it was horrible. The last year and a half, I do not think I felt the spirit once. On reading the BoM, like I said I tried. I would get halfway through it and have gotten nothing out of it. No feeling, no truths, nothing. The part you bolded, was out of context. What I meant was that without Christ's death, there would be no Christian religion.
  2. May I ask, did these false answers come during prayer? If you are praying to God the Father, and receive a feeling of yes or no, how could that come from Satan? The major questions, yes. The other smaller details no. Those are the ones I came here to get answered. I have quite a few questions. As I said on the Cross thread, I am currently staying in a hotel and forgot my Bible. Most of these questions, I would like to have it for reference before I ask them. But do not worry, these questions will be coming within the next few days. Most of them are not LDS, simply because I can be myself around them. They are much less judging and more accepting. Around previous LDS friends, I had to pretend and I just finally could not pretend anymore. No, I have not been active for about three or four years. Honestly, if anything is making it hard to associate with the LDS youth, it is the LDS youth. Some background info on this. Back when I was active in my ward(It was the 18th clinton ward), it was an amazing ward. It consisted of happy, accepting, genuine mormons. About six months before I stopped going to church, the 18th ward was dissolved. There was another ward that was struggling with members. So, the logical thing to do is dissolve the healthy and strong ward, right? A few weeks prior to it happening, our bishop got up and started telling us about it by saying, "Well, get ready! There is going to be a shake up!" So, they divided the ward. 90% or so went to the struggling ward, and the other 10% or so got added to a preexisting ward(I think it was the 6th ward). My family, one or two of our friends, and the bishop of the 18th ward were part of those going to the 6th ward. When we got to the new ward, we found that they already had their groups and stuff organized as they wanted it. Pretty much they did not want us there. The bishop and his wife from the 18th ward even agreed with us on this! So this is when and why I stopped going to church.
  3. First of all, I want to thank all of you for your replies. I also want to say, that my issues are with the LDS church and that is as far as they go. I have a complete testimony of Christ and Christianity in general. No. The Cross, is one of many issues with the Church that I have. This one was simply the first one I had composed enough to ask. I am currently in a hotel, and unfortunately forgot my Bible at home, and I was not quite ready to ask other questions without it for some reference. I was born and raised a mormon. I was baptized when I was nine, so eight years ago. To tell you the truth, I was baptized because I had faith in Christ, at least as much as you can at that age. I had no clue on the LDS faith. I was baptized in the LDS faith at that time, because I lived in Utah, and that is just what you do. Honestly I got enough weird looks when people found out that I was not baptized when I was eight. I do not need to rediscover it, as Christ is already a big part of my life. It is simply the LDS faith that is not. I just answered the first three so, The Book of Mormon? No. I tried reading it back when President Hinckley challenged everyone to. I tried, and I just did not get anything out of it. I recently tried again, with very similar results. Joseph Smith? No.
  4. Thanks, I appreciate it everyone. Here is pretty much what has happened. I have had questions about the church for years, but only about this past year have started taking them serious. I had started thinking more about it, and praying frequently about if it is true, and if it is where I am supposed to be. Firstly, most of my friends are non-mormons and one of them does a bible study. One afternoon last fall, I asked her if I could come to the bible study. From the very start, I noticed how much different how she practices is from any mormons(She is baptist, btw). Over a few bible studies, she helped me realize that I did not have much faith at all in this church. I realized that almost all of my faith came from the thought, "All of my family believes it, so it must be true." Over the next couple of weeks, I did some serious praying about whether this church is where I am supposed to be. As far as I could tell, the answer I got, was no. Let me finish by saying that the LDS faith is as far as my troubles go. I have a complete testimony of Christ and Christianity in general, though.
  5. Let me start out by saying I am very close to leaving the church. Though I have a few questions before, which is why I came here. To start with, one of my issues with church doctrine is the subject of the Cross. Personally, I wear a Cross, but according to the church website, mormons are not supposed to wear the symbol of the cross because, “the Savior lives, [so] we do not use the symbol of His death as the symbol of our faith.” My opinion on the subject, is that the symbol of Christ's' death, the Cross, is the symbol of Christianity because without his death there would be no religion. So my question is, why? I do not understand why the fact that Christ lives means that we should not wear a Cross. I ask for any further explanation and/or opinions on the subject.
  6. Hello, my name is Brendan and I live in northern Utah. I am 17 and a senior in high school next year. Currently I am very close to becoming an ex-mormon. I came here mainly to ask a few questions to make sure that leaving the church is not a mistake.
