  1. Just an interesting note to me. I've been a convert for twenty years and I still remember the first have dozen health blessing that I performed. Being the newest I got to hear a lot of "older" brethren giving a health blessings. They had some long preambles to get the job done. It was a three minute process to anoint with the oil. Another three minute process to bless the anointing "before the blessing ever started". Where are these beautiful words came from I dont know. I ask the bishop about it once and he told me to follow the PH card that I carry in my pocket just in case something special comes up. The health blessing is simple but sometimes we get carried away and just add beautiful flowery words that just are not necessary. Its not Right or Wrong Just Different. The Lord knows our spirit and intent. If any of the priesthood ordinances had a specific exactness we would be instructed in the proper way. Just like the Baptism and Sacramental Prayers. We are all helpers of the Lord, perhaps not perfect helpers but helpers none the less. Thanks
  2. Georgia, Remember this. The more you know the more you are accountable. This isnt bad, but the more we learn the more responsibility we have to live the correct way. Ive been a member of the Church for twenty years and do not understand all things. Somethings I know I will have to learn after my life on earth. With my limited earthly brain I can not understand all of God's plan. However I do know that if we following the teaching of the LDS church that we will be closer to Heavenly Father than any other church that I know. The idea of eternal families has got to be a big part "the heart" of the church. I know that this is Jesus Christ church, and these are all his teachings. Hopefully one day I can understand all the principals. Probably not in this lifetime but I know we will learn them all. Gergia, Just remember that as a member of this church we learn things very simply. "Line upon Line and Precept upon Precept". So the more we learn the more we CAN learn. Stay focused and you will find your way.
  3. The concept of the storehouse and the Church Welfare Services emerged from scriptural principles, elucidated by a series of revelations given to the Prophet Joseph Smith beginning in 1831, a year after the Church was organized. In one revelation, Church members were directed to "remember the poor, and consecrate [their] properties for [the poor's] support" (D&C 42:30). The goods and money thus contributed were to be "kept in [the Lord's] storehouse, to administer to the poor and the needy" under the direction of the local presiding leader, the bishop (verse 34). Bishops were charged to seek donations as well (D&C 104:15-16; Welfare Services Resource Handbook, p. 9). As defined by Church doctrine, the concept of the bishop's storehouse is founded on the belief that members of the Church should care for themselves and for each other. This is done, first, in families and, second, through the Church. Members are discouraged from seeking assistance from governmental or other social agencies. The implementation of the mutual help program has varied considerably according to the economic conditions of the members and the organizational structure of the Church. At various times, distribution of goods has occurred through bishops, tithing offices, or bishop's storehouses. Utilization of the storehouse concept received intense emphasis during the United Order effort of the 1870s. From that time forward, most wards maintained their own storehouse until the introduction of regional storehouses (1934-1936). Storehouses figured prominently in the Church's effort to care for its people during the economic depression of the 1930s and formed the basis for a more systematic approach to shared assistance
  4. Hello Loudmouth. What a name. To a certain extent I think that you are right about 30+ year jobs availability. And I think there are numerous reasons for this: employer/employee/ dedication to each other, greed on both employee (jumping to higher paying job) and employer (hiring cheap labor to replace expensive and experienced labor ). However this being said that I do believe that you can find good jobs that will last a long time. If you can manage your retirement account and stay out of debt you can enjoy life after you stop working. Alaska sounds like a nice place. I would like to meet the governor. I think she is a nice lady and could be a very good VP and President if the need every came. Loud just stay focused on things now and the future will come. Family first and church you will do good for yourself. You take care.
  5. This is a real issue we should all take interest in. I am 60 years old. Retired at 55 and live on the beach in Mexico. Made sure that I had one good job that I could retire from and stayed with the organization for 35 years. Did I have other chances to move and better my position? Yes Why not move? Because I would have to start over. Yea better pay but still at the bottom. I'm lucky, like most of you here, I have no debt. Lived within my means, made a few good investments. But the biggest thing for people of today is to avoid Credit Card debt. Its a killer. You can win. I'm not saying to throw them a way, but be responsible and pay them off every month. Life is good and I wish all of you could come for a visit. The beach is nice and the weather is great.
  6. My wife (Alice) and I retired six years ago and have been living in Mexico. We live in a small fishing village (on the beach) south of Nogales Arizona. We do really enjoy it here. It is truly amazing how blessed we are that we were lucky enough to have been born of parents in the United States of America. Our opportunities for education and good employment thus creating a decent life style for us and your children. We live 45 miles from church, so for us Sunday becomes a six hour experience. But we are the lucky ones. Most of our Mexican branch members have to walk 3-5 miles to come to church. And they Do it. Love of the Gospel here is strong. My wife and I have family that lives in Phoenix and we travel to the US 3/4 times a year. It is truly amazing the differences in the two countries. We really like the more relaxed living conditions. The slower pace required to get things done. The idea that time is NOT MONEY but a chance to talk and be with friends and family. Tomorrow is fine, if today I can spend with you and the family. I really believe that this is the "eternal family plan". Family First. Well I hope to hear some feed back from you guys. Take care Bob and Alice Retired in Tastiota Mexico
