  1. As I got finished discussing with Ray about the "Big Love" show, polygamy is part of this Church's history and its heritage. If it was not for Joseph Smith, the "claimed" prophet who started it all, then we wouldn't have this mess today. These fundamentalist sects originated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This Church shares the responsibility for the origins of this legacy and lifestyle thrust upon women. An attempt to systematically control and in some cases abuse women.
  2. :) Well, the Mormons believed polygamy was ok from Smith to Woodruff's rule. It was this "claim" that it was a "revelation from God" to Smith. Another alleged "claim" came from Woodruff, himself, that "God told him" that the Church should stop the practice. All these "claims" that have no proof or merit. So, to be quite frank Ray, the LDS Church started this mess that we live with today. See, the fundamentalist break-off sects started with Joseph Smith. It all started with this Church and they are responsible for it today as they were in the past. You can't distance yourself from this because its part of your heritage.
  3. Does anyone have a VCR? I checked out the official website for "Big Love" and I want to see this show! Bill Paxton plays Mormon Polygamist Bill Hendrickson and has three wives and lives in Salt Lake City. Ohhhh this show is gonna be good! I can't wait. I'll get the popcorn and please mail me the tape! I wonder if the Utah cable companies will black it out? LOL For more information on "Big Love," Check out their website! http://www.hbo.com/biglove/cast/index.html
  4. If it was that simple Ray, then the Church would not have a problem with this show, "Big Love." They would admit their past and move on and not continue to try and reinvent the wheel everytime something embarrassing comes out of the past.
  5. Quote from Ray: "Or in other words, the fact that Joseph Smith told us that God told him and certain other people to practice polygamy did and does not mean that Joseph Smith or God told other people they should practice polygamy, because neither Joseph Smith nor God told us or them anything about what those other people should do regarding polygamy… other than what God said to the prophets after Joseph Smith concerning the fact that we should no longer be practicing polygamy… as of right now." Ray, once again I beg to question why the Church keeps trying to get out of this? What's the scoop? Are they embarrassed by their own God that said polygamy was ok to Joseph Smith? Are they embarrassed that same God told Woodruff to stop the practice? Are they embarrassed that their God keeps "changing his story?" His supposedly "eternal word?" I leave it to you to explain these contradictions. LOL
  6. All I'm saying is really simple... that MOST of the people practicing polygamy in America are doing so because Joseph Smith said that he received the word from God that he and others should practice it. These Mormon fundamentalists' beliefs come from JS. Therefore, the LDS church, which was founded by JS, should not act as though they have nothing to do with polygamy. Can anyone truly argue with that point? I gotta agree with Shantress on this one folks! The Mormon Church has a history of polygamy from "claimed prophets" Joseph Smith to Wilford Woodruff. Mormons can not hide this history from anybody and why would they even try? When one attempts to sweep all the bad stuff under the rug like this Church has been doing for years, you gotta wonder why? Why not be open and frank about everything in your history? People respect those who are open and honest more than those who are trying to cover up something embarrassing in the past. Besides, why be embarrassed by a policy that was supposedly claimed to be a "revelation from God" to allow for polygamy? Is the Church embarrassed by its own God? Then again, that same God "supposedly" told "claimed prophet" Woodruff to quit the practice of polygamy. A God that is constantly changing his "eternal word?"
  7. I'm from South Dakota and I have been keeping up on the recent news that federal agents are keeping an eye on some suspected Fundamentalist Mormon Polygamists in the Black Hills. Their leader, who they view as a prophet, Warren Jeffs is wanted for an alleged sexual assault of a minor. According to recent news reports, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints owns around 100 acres somewhere in the Southern Hills of South Dakota.
