  1. The dangers of resentment --disguised as "fairness", and then politicized via taxes, regulations, etc to punish success-- is a key message of Atlas Shrugged. I'm just starting to read Scriptures. What are some passages that speak to the evils of resentment? I can imagine resentment being a twisted form of covetousness. Great thread!
  2. +100! Atlas Shrugged was a very influential book in my life. Don't agree with AR about everything, such as her views about abortion, but I will always be grateful to her for opening my eyes about the dangers of liberal collectivism.
  3. This is so very helpful. Thank you all for sharing your experience and advice.

  5. Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your sharing your experiences with me. It really helps.
  6. Hi, I'm wondering how you LDS converts out there handled your baptisms. If you were the only member of your family to ever convert to anything, let alone Mormonism, did you invite family members to attend? Or did you keep it a private ceremony? Or are "gentiles" even allowed to attend? Although my husband knows I'm investigating the church and is very supportive, I find myself a bit apprehensive about how my birth family will react given all the prejudice and misinformation out there. Any advice for how to broach the subject? What worked for you? What would you do differently if you could do it over again? Thanks!
  7. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!
  8. Hi, My heart longs for a spiritual connection with God, and Catholicism and I never "clicked." Working with many wonderful Saints has inspired me to "investigate" the LDS church. Enjoying the experience so far. I've gotten involved in my local ward just this month and thought this forum would be another good place to come for information. Thanks in advance for your patience with my many questions. vesti
