  1. I find it strange that people are so bent on disproving this idea in a bid to somehow negate the impact of human pollution. Global warming does occur as evidenced by history, but what we not want to happen is for us to push it into happening, because frankly, I prefer that my house not be flooded and billions of people displaced, looking for my food. Then again, my kids would have more of an issue with that, but I could just say, who cares, I'll be dead, like so many of the last generation.

The same people who argue that its not happening, probably think recycling is for socialists, not pouring medication, oil or paint down the drain is for hippies and nuclear energy is safe.

Our activities are affecting our environment in an extremely negative way.

Or not. It has not been proven that global warming, or cooling, or climate change is caused by humans. The science simply doesn't support the theory. Yet we have lots of people lining up to make money off of that idea, including Al Gore.

Look, I'm just as much of a proponent of the responsible use of our planet as the next guy. We absolutely should be responsible stewards of what we have been given. I support recycling and repurposing until an item is completely used up, and the responsible use of our resources.

But to advocate spending billions and trillions of dollars on an idea that hasn't been proven seems to me to be a waste of money. If you want to spend your money on those ideas, go ahead, be my guest. But if you are going to spend my money on it, I think you should be able to show me (1), that your premise is true, and (2), that what you propose to do will actually make a difference in dealing with that problem. So far, those have not happened.

  2. That may be, but there is also the chance that you read into their message as negative when it's possible that it's just information.

    M.

The SL Trib caters to its readership. Reading the comments section after an article can give you a pretty good idea of who its readers are. The Trib was started as an anti-LDS alternative to the Deseret News, and while some of its reporting of facts are accurate, the slant they give those facts is aimed to foment reactions from its readership. Without bothering to read the article, let me guess: 90% of the comments direct anger toward some aspect of the LDS Church. Am I right?

  3. What??? It is right to tithe, but you can't buy yourself closer to Christ. Personaly, I find this whole "fire insurance" concept of tithing being preached in church is so misleading as is the "I can't afford not to tithe" comments. Tithing is mentioned in the bible in several places and it is somthing we should do, but nowhere is it said that paying tyhing "enables us to be closer to Christ". In the same way nowhere in the bible does it say in order be with Christ and heavenly farther you have to do anything more than accept Christ into your life. When Christ was on the cross he said to the man next to him. "today you will join me in the kingdom of heaven". He didn't say "sorry dude you haven't paid your tithing or completed XYZ so it's off to some middle heaven for you mate." This is where I find our church differs from the teachings of Christ.

One last point. Yes tyhing was/is a commandment of God, but was "thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife" also a commandment? Just asking.

Obedience to the commandments, even the ones that say you should pay tithes and offerings, brings you closer to Christ. That's part of the deal with the whole covenants thing.

  4. Hi Leah. If it was a "random church member" I would agree, but this was church missionaries. Do not the church say "ask the missionaries".

The typical missionary is an 18-22 year old young man with little life experience and little formal religious training other than weekly church meetings and possibly some early-morning seminary classes that he likely had a hard time staying awake through. His 'job' is to bring people to and testify of Christ, not to know every little scrap of church history. It's not his job to know or get into the minutiae of church doctrine or to conduct in-depth discussions of events not related to his 'job'. How much more do you know now than when you graduated high school? You're much better off asking long-time members of the church and local leaders who have taken the time to research for answers to these deeper questions. Quite honestly, they may never have been exposed to them before because they are not major points of the gospel of Christ, which is what they are out preaching. You joined the church for a reason, did you do it because the missionaries seemed like world scholars? Or did you do it because you felt the promptings of the Spirit testifying to you that what they were saying was true?

  5. I don't know why it is that people who trot out their hobby horses to the point of teetering on apostasy tend to fall back on the 'but I met the Prophet once' excuse. The scriptures point out that even the most elect will fall prey to Satan's grasp. It's been my experience that those claim to be the most infallible are also the most susceptible to thinking they are above or don't need to listen to the prophets and their church leaders because those leaders are beneath that person in their spiritual progression.

  6. maybe zimmerman beat himself to make it look bad who knows we will not know the truth..and his wounds were nothing and where were the makes of proof on trevons body that he did this. non of zimmermas blood o him or skin with modern tech.. they should of found this if the boy was guilty... he was innocent.

the world is getting to be a very dangerous place. I can see myself being shot cause someone doesnt like the way i drive....come onn people.. theres to much hate in people....it is very very sad....

Perhaps if you had paid any attention to the evidence introduced during the trial, you would know how silly you sound right now. I would urge you to watch this great summary of the evidence as we know it in this case:

After the 23 minute mark you can probably stop watching because he starts moralizing and putting his own spin on things, but the first 23 minutes are a great wrap-up of things as they happened or were testified to, and a little background on both parties involved. Beware, he uses crude language when he uses exact quotes of what both people said or allegedly said according to testimony given.
  7. I really doubt that the body in the casket is the one that will be resurrected, after all, billions of people who have lived throughout history are just dust now, or perhaps just bones.

We are promised a perfected glorified body, not some (and I really do apologize for being so explicit but I don't know how else to say it) rotting corpse.

No zombies? Awww, the under-30 crowd will be upset to hear that.
