I know that the church's founder, Joseph Smith, was having a diificult time deciding what church to join. He prayed until Moroni camed to him and told him that there were gold plates that he needed to translate. He was told he could not get them now but he would in a few years. Seven years he was told to retrieve them in upstate New York. It took him about a year to translate them. When he was done, the same spirit retrieve them back. This was I believe 1820. The church was organized in 1830. Missionaries were sent out to bring new followers. Smith was murdered by a mod will he was in jail in 1844. Brigham Young lead the early members of the LDS to today to Utah. The church has Words of Wisdom with advisises its members to abstinence from alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products. They also encourage members to fast, maintain sexual purity, eat meat in moderation, and a modest dress code. The current prophet is Thomas S. Monson. LDS uses the Bible as long as it is translated correctly. Other standard works of the church are Doctrines and Conveants and Pearl of Great Price.
