I agree and I really do want to go for the right reasons and my parents are manipulating me because I am a convert. I am going to try and do everything it takes to go on one now, hopefully I can.

Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate them however the only way I will figure out if I will go or not is to keep prayng and hope for an answer. By the way, is it hard to get into BYU or BYU Idaho as a returning missionary? I can imagine it is but I heard it is getting hard ot get in. Thats where I would go to school if I went of a mission

I would make sure the next vacuum you purchase that the Spirit be with it.

Would I still be able to go on a mission with a tattoo?

Yeah I asked my Bishop about it he laughed and asked why I would be concerned. Lol, well now I know -

Thanks -
Well I converted a few months ago, I have been doing very well I love the Church and continue to go to services on Sunday, I even got a calling recently. My Bishop and I have been talking about me going on a mission, starting the paper work in a few months and I am very excited I would love to go on one. I did a few stupid things before I converted however, I got a tattoo. Its on my back and its hidden but its a tattoo of a dagger, would that prevent me from going on a mission? I know nothing of the qualifications of going on a mission besides keeping the WoW and Law of Chasity,

Well when I smoked, a lot of the times I watched pornography, I drank alcohol and I had the desire to experiment with some other drugs, thankfully I didn't. After you smoke weed for awhile it gets boring and most want to move on to something stronger. This was all before I got baptized, I haven't touched the stuff since before I got baptized and I feel better than ever. One of the main problems with it is when you smoke it, you forget about your faith.

I always met mine at the local library.

As a former marijuana user myself, I know a lot about it. It may be harmless but it certainly isn't "good" for you. I eventually came to the conclusion that the devil tricks us with marijuana, he tries to convince us it is harmless etc etc but in reality there are many harms that come with smoking marijuana.

Someone doing temple work for my deceased family members?
Robb8547 replied to Robb8547's topic in Advice Board
Well no they were the only ones who came to America out of all the siblings, the rest all live in Ireland and I highly, highly doubt someone is LDS over there. The temple work was done in Texas also. -

Someone doing temple work for my deceased family members?
Robb8547 replied to Robb8547's topic in Advice Board
Well yes you have a good point, but she doesn't understand who could've done it, the whole entire family was raised Catholic. It makes me kind of upset too because these people have a lot of meaning to my family and I would have rather done it than opposed to someone just being a distant "relative". I will look into it more. Is there anyway to get information on the person who has done it. If come to find out that the person did it was in fact by chance a close relative, we wouldn't be as upset (or at least I wouldn't be). We just don't want random people doing it claiming they are related to us. -

I am only concerned about my grand mother. She is the oldest living descent on that side of the family and it's not a matter of doing it, it's a matter of getting permission. She almost had a stroke over it and I felt really bad about it. I understand that the further you go back, the more relatives but this hit my grandmother personally because she is the daughter and grand daughter of these people. Not to mention the person doing it shouldn't be unless she is related to us correct? -

I understand, but my family is very upset over it, I mean my grandmother isn't even LDS nor is anyone else in my family that we know of and they don't share the same belief that they are "in paradise". I would want to know if someone has been doing temple work or any kind of ritual to my grand parents if I wasn't a member, not knowing other wise is just being almost a stalker. -

No, not at all. How would you feel if some "distance" relative has been baptizing your family members without you knowing? I am sure you would like to know who baptized your deceased mother or father? My grandmother is a Catholic and out of respect I would at least ask her. But my family is so upset at this they don't want me to do it to any family now. -
So I am new to the church, I am 21 and loving it.Except today we were doing family history and I found my great grand parents and great-great on my mom's side. I was very excited, but come to know that temple work has already been done for all of them We have no idea who did it and myself and my family are VERY upset that someone has been baptizing my family members and we don't even know who they are, I am the only LDS family member that we know of. What should I do?

Thanks for all the replies, I don't think I will let financial needs get in the way of serving God :)

So I am 21 and I got baptized in the church a few months ago. I love the church and I am having no problem keeping the law of Chasity or WoW and going to church. It's going great. I spoke to my bishop recently, he asked me if I would go on a mission in like a year. I would love to I think it would be an amazing experience and I think I would be ready (I went to Christian school growing up my whole life, so I know the Bible a lot). But the only problem is the financial needs. I only have about $1500 saved up from my job and my parents wont helpo with much because they are paying for my college. The bishop said that members would support me and stuff but I am afraid I won't have enough. Would this hold me back from going on one?
