I am divorced and want to cancel my sealing. I am engaged to marry a wonderful man and we want to be sealed in the temple together. I know that during the process for a cancellation, input is sought from the ex-spouse. My ex is deceased and I was told that his family would then be given a chance to “weigh in” on my requesting a cancellation. My divorce was acrimonious and I am not close to my ex’s family. I don’t understand why they would be given the chance to speak. I do understand the reasoning behind asking the ex spouse, but his family? And because of this our bishop has recommended we get married civilly because the process is expected to take longer due to having his family involved. I am discouraged. I would like to start out with a temple marriage. Can anyone explain why they will give my ex husbands family any kind of voice in this process?
