I think it's easy to get mired in terminology but in principle a tithe is what the Lord requires until we're ready to consecrate all. It's a token for what we really owe. But to answer a person honestly desiring to obey, and since we're not yet living in a united order, then each must decide what is their "income". No leader is authorized to elaborate on that definition. Since life insurance replaces income that will be lost I believe it qualifies as income. Since property insurance merely replaces lost property, already purchased with tithed income, it seems redundant to tithe those funds. Once one decides on their definition of income they can tithe on that and be fully satisfied they are pleasing the Lord. They need not justify or explain it to anyone else.
