  1. I know I haven't mentioned anything about this yet on the forum, but...

I just wanted everyone to know that Catholic laity and Catholic clergy are outraged and distressed about the stories of abuse executed by some of those who've been entrusted with an ordination to the priesthood.

I know, at least, that Latter-day Saints understand the concept of having an instituted, hierarchical Church (as opposed to some of our Protestant brethren), and I hope at least some are able to separate the actions of individual members, even members within the hierarchy, from the Church herself, a Church that does condemn this behavior, and preaches love and mercy for all people. At least now that the exploitation and mistreatment have been revealed, we can work to repair the damage and guard against it ever happening again.

Thanks to all of you who are merciful in your words and patient and loving in our heartbreak.

Oh, Sacred Heart of Jesus, protect and have mercy on us. Mary, our mother, please pray for the Church.

  2. I just watched this talk at Google given by Bishop Barron... He speaks about how the mind naturally searches for truth and, primarily, about how God, not power, wealth, honor, or pleasure, is the ultimate desire of a human being. It's a talk formatted for all people, both religious and irreligious alike, and is really worth watching!

  3. I love these two quotes from St. Faustina's Diary...

Now you shall consider My love in the Blessed Sacrament. Here, I am entirely yours, soul, body, and divinity, as your Bridegroom. You know what love demands: one thing only, reciprocity ... (Diary, 1770).

My daughter, My favor rests in your heart. When on Holy Thursday I left Myself in the Blessed Sacrament, you were very much on My mind (Diary, 1774).

  4. I was replying to a thread a little while ago, and then a thought occurred to me... Does the LDS Church allow the use of psychologists and psychiatrists? I thought I saw some time ago it didn't, but is that true?

Oh, okay! So psychology's not forbidden, it's just encouraged to go to an LDS one?

LDS people can seek help from any psychologist or psychiatrist they choose. They don't have to be LDS specific. LDS people are encouraged to be self reliant--physically, spiritually, and mentally. So just like we can seek help from any doctor we choose for a physical ailment, we can also seek help from any other professional we choose.

If a person is seeking that kind of help from their Bishop, then he will generally refer them directly to LDS Family Services which would be LDS psychologists. Or he may just encourage them to seek professional help from whomever they choose.

That's good to know, Connie, thank you! :)

  5. I thought this quote of Jesus from Faustina's diary was beautiful:

See, I have left My heavenly throne to become united with you. What you see is just a tiny part and already your soul swoons with love. How amazed will your heart be when you see Me in all My glory (Diary, 1810).
