  1. Like TerryK I believe the Bible to be true as far as it is translated correctly. The age of the earth is a simple thing to explain. The Hebrew word for "day" can mean a period of time. Therefore taken in that light, the age of the earth and the creation of the universe is easily understood. Evolution: Simply means change. All things change. Do I believe that we descended from apes? That is an emphatic "No". The theory of evolution which is presented by a lot of people is that we started out as a simple organism and got more complex. This never happened, it cannot, because it violates the laws of science. A simple organism is not going to get more complex to the point where it is a human being. The Bible is by no means complete, and anyone who says it is, is fooling themselves. However it is the word of God to his prophets and we should obey the principles contained therein, as they are the words of life and happiness.
  2. While I have a sister who is a lesbian and love my sister to death, I cannot condone her lifestyle. However it is a choice and she was free to make it. The consequences of her actions are hers as well. I simply disagree with being forced to give someone extra rights because they chose to live outside of the norm and now want recognition for their choices. I cannot understand why a gay man would want a "marriage" there is no monogamy among gay men. Men are simply not wired that way. I hate to say it but monogamy even in a hetero couple is not "natural". It goes against our very nature to be with one mate. But that is where the natural man is an enemy to God and by obeying his commandments we are forcing our natural man to rise to a higher level. I can understand a monogamous relationship among lesbian women, as for women monogamy is quite "natural" a woman wants to be in a lasting, caring relationship, which is not always about procreation. Having known several gay/lesbian people and having a sister who is lesbian, I know that from conversations with them, that they know on some level that what they are doing is wrong. If they are honest with themselves they also will tell you that they are not happy. They are living in one of the most high-risk lifestyles imaginable and know that by choosing their lifestyle that they are engaging in a type of Russian roulette. There is somethings that we can do to help them. 1. DO NOT JUDGE - We all make choices everyday which are either sins of omission or commission. 2. Reach out and befriend them, we can and should "love the man, not the sin" 3. Help them realize that through the Atonement, this weakness of selfishness which as identified by Elder Boyd K. Packer is the root cause of homosexual behavior, can be turned around and they can be happy again.
  3. Sorry, there are no car chases or dogs playing poker.
  4. Sure, this book is concerned with building friendships and professional networks where people help each other without thought of reciprocity. Mr. Ferrazzi stresses this point emphatically. Giving without thought of reciprocity is the key to building long term professional and friendly relationships. A quote from the back cover: "Your network is your net worth. This book shows you how to add to your personal bottom line with better networking and bigger relationships." Tim Sanders, author of Love is the Killer App: How to Win Business and Influence Friends Mr. Ferrazzi is a very personable person and after reading this book you want to meet him. I have been lucky enough to have several classes online with him and he is just as nice as what you get from the book. Any other information that you would like, read the book. Then go out and buy a copy for someone else.
  5. This book was a required reading for one of my MBA classes and it is truly magnificent. Check it out. Read it. It will change your life. Then lets discuss.
  6. The best way that this can be explained is the example of a family. The mother and father are two distinct individuals, however their purpose that of raising their children in righteousness makes them one. In the same way the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost are three separate individuals. The Father has a body of flesh and bone. The Son has a body of flesh and bone. The Holy Ghost is a spirit so that he can best communicate with our spirits. They are three separate beings yet one in purpose. That purpose is and also their glory is to "...to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." (Moses 1:39). This question was answered finally in the Sacred Grove when Joseph Smith Jr. inquired of God which of all the churches was true, and received in response a vision of the Father and the Son.
  7. Congratulations. No, there is nothing that needs to be done. Since your sealing was never annulled you were still sealed even though civilly divorced. You are good.
  8. Shelly, It sounds like you are having some serious issues. They need to be addressed. The first thing which you need to do is to talk with your bishop about the things going on. He is the only one authorized and holding the keys to receive revelation for you other than yourself. Talk with him, confide in him, ask for his advice and then follow it. This is a very difficult situation for you and I am sorry that you are going through something like this. The absolute best advice you can receive is to talk with your bishop.
