The Holy Ghost is referred to by several names. Joseph Fielding Smith indicated that the Holy Ghost, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Lord, or simply the Spirit are all names referring to Him. We read in the Book of Mormon that Nephi "was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do." I suspect that just as so many other portions of the Old Testament (and New Testament) were removed, so were references to the Holy Ghost.
In a sermon delivered in 1857, President Heber C. Kimball stated: “The Holy Ghost is a man; he is one of the sons of our Father and our God; and he is that man that stood next to Jesus Christ, just as I stand by Brother Brigham.”
I hope this sheds additional light on who the Holy Ghost is.
