"The combination of attack campaigns and media sensationalism has debased American politics and destroyed all traces of civility in public life. . . . Editorial writers and columnists may decry the decline of civility. Yet they rarely ask if their own behavior has contributed to and shaped the vicious partisanship that afflicts American life."--columnist Andrew Greeley, Chicago Sun-Times, July 2

"[President Bush] is not another Hitler. Yet there is a certain parallelism. They have in common a demagogic appeal to the worst side of a country's heritage in a crisis. Bush is doubtless sincere in his vision of what is best for America. So too was Hitler."--columnist Andrew Greeley, Chicago Sun-Times, June 11

Cool....I like this Andrew Greeley guy..... :)

um ... "cool" because he wears his hypocrisy on his sleeve instead of hiding it?

Didn't you pick up a little pot/kettle vibe with his decrying sensationalism and calling for greater civility one day, and comparing someone to a genocidal tyrant the next?

No, I did not. I see nothing sensational about comparing Dubya to Adolf. If the jockstrap fits...

Do you suppose that it dawned of Horace that he was hypocritical of was he so self-righteous that it just escaped him?

Surely, a dilemma facing many of our self-appointed elite. I think of so-called Christians ordering the dropping of bombs on civilian communities or business like religions amassing billions of dollars, building overly decorous places of worship.
