Going from experience .... I know that when ever my wife and I have approached a bishop about getting help they have always been there.... there have been times... when we didn't even need to ask.... the bishop found out "through the grapevine" , that we could possible use some help one time.....

The help is always there... go prepared.... have a budget, let him know what you need, and exactly what your situation is..... that is what Fast Offerings are there for.

When I was in high school (which was many years ago), my mother had a friend who needed surgery and had no health insurance, and the LDS church paid for the hospitalization and the surgery. My mother's friend was not a member of the church at the time. She did later become LDS, though.

That sounds more like an investment than a handout. It was nice of the church to finance that for her though.

Yes, help is there for those who need.

When I had need I was barely active and had never paid tithing. I was terrified and humiliated, but I was treated with the greatest of care and respect. And, my experience was like that of enlightenme; a grapevine at work.

This changed my attitude in many ways; led me back to the path, and now I give so that others may receive.

I KNOW that you do NOT have to be a tithing active member to receive this help freely given, and I also have known persons and families who were not members who received direct assistance.

I'm not sure if I have enough cash to buy beer this weekend. This gives me an idea.....
