amtrak Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Hi! I am in the process of converting and had a few questions on what the most important parts were of: -2nd Nephi, Ch. 31 - Chap. 2 . Adam & Eve. Thanks! I want to try to get the most :) Anton Quote
tubaloth Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Most important part? Thats like saying what is the most imporant word in the dictionary? (Its Remember right). Both chapters are really well, both chapters for the most part is really important. I don't know how I can pick any one part that is better then the rest. Trust me, its not that big of deal now that you figure out what part is most important in each chapter, the key is that YOU are finding things that are important to you! As you move forward with the rest of your life, you well read these chapters many times, each time something well be more important. "Its nice to be important, but its more important to be nice." amtrak Posted October 23, 2008 Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 Well true-- Perhaps I should rephrase then. What are a few things I should take out of both of these sections? I am meeting with the local missionaries again and try to get a good understanding when I don't know a lot about the chapter. Thanks! Quote

tubaloth Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 What are a few things I should take out of both of these sections?2 Nephi 2 is one of the main chapters in the book of mormon that talk about the Plan of Salvation. The Plan (Calling it a plan) is one of the main things that separate our church from others (I don't think Plan of Salvation is used in the book of mormon, its more called the Plan of Redemption). So Lehi in this chapter is teaching his son one of the key parts of it! Mostly about Agency and opposition in all things. (okay maybe that was two points)To have a perfect plan of salvation, you have to allow people the ability to choose. (Sometimes called Free Agency) . When we talk about free, we are talking more about Freedom to choose then really there is no cost to agency (because we have to deal with the consequence)Lehi explains for Agency to really work you have to have opposition in all things. The only way you can choose the good, is to know there is also a bad. To gain blessings then there would have to be a punishment also. Both go hand in hand. Once you lose one side then there is no more choice anymore. And thus no way to really use your agency. So to keep the commandments, to get blessings, and to progress towards God, you also need the other side, so there is actually a choice to make. Lehi then shows this idea of the power to choose, by what happen in the Garden of Eden. Adam had a choice to make, because of that choice he fell, (Lehi then explains why the fall had to happen) That’s kind of it in a nut shell. It’s a good chapter to study over and over again. To take things one step farther we need to evaluate why we make the choices we do! Chapter 31 is Nephi explaining why Christ was baptized. Two things I guess are kind of assumed. 1. Baptism is really a covenant we make with God to wash (forgive) our sins away. 2. Christ never sinned. He was prefect and never violated any eternal law. So Nephi explains why a perfect person would allow to be baptized. Nephi explains that to show his obedience to his Father, he humbled himself to get baptized. Also because Christ wants all of us to be baptized, Christ showed us the way, by being baptized himself. (I also thought it was kind of strange, if Christ didn’t get baptized in reality he would of being breaking a commandment to get baptized, which then isn’t that a sin?) Nephi then explains that Baptism is only the start on our Progression towards God and his Kingdom. (Baptism is what qualifies us to enter the Celestial Kingdom or Heaven). I hope that’s kind of what you were looking for. What did you like about those chapters?Good luck! Quote
